It's the indicator that tells you whether you're in a 2 or a 4 channel mode.

Most quad receivers in early and mid 70's had some kind of flashy indicator for quad. There was an optional remote for the QRX3500 which just controlled the quad and consisted mainly of a joystick.

That indicator looks... different! :scratch2: I'll have to get my hands on a quad receiver at some point - I have owned a quadraphonic LP for ages (Redbone: Message from a Drum) but never tried it out with the right setup.

I'd just replace the single knob that looks out of place...The others look fine!

Not sure but I think those knobs are off a Gx000 Sansui. Getting replacements can be tricky as I think the knobs scaled with the receiver's size, so that the G8000 knobs were bigger than the G6000's, even though they otherwise looked the same. The original knob (assuming it is original) looks pretty much like a generic Pioneer knob of that era and it might be easier to find four (or five) of them than one of the Sansui's.

I actually found 2 Sony knobs today at an antique store totally by accident... from a very deceased STR-6055. Gave the guy $1 for them (which is kind of funny given that the receiver they are for cost me $6)! I guess at this point I'll see which is easier: finding another 3 Sony knobs or 1 Sansui knob!

I actually found 2 Sony knobs today at an antique store totally by accident... from a very deceased STR-6055. Gave the guy $1 for them (which is kind of funny given that the receiver they are for cost me $6)! I guess at this point I'll see which is easier: finding another 3 Sony knobs or 1 Sansui knob!

Just wanted to mention how nice I think that Sony is.I can't ever recall seeing one before.Excellent deal on that receiver.I really like these type of early 70's units.

Recent Finds

There has been a modest trickle of finds lately. Picked up a pair of Advent Prodigy Towers & Infinity RS-5001 speakers, $10.00 for each pair. Both need foam, got that done & both sound great. Couple weeks ago picked up a Carver TL-3100 CD player that occasionally gets brain damage, the display goes nuts, have to thump it to get it back on track. $5.00 at a flea market. Friday picked up a Technics SU-V90D integrated amp that, get this, has a coax & optical digital input. Had the original box & packing for $10.00 at a local thrift. Could not find much on it on line, but found the manual on HIFIEngine. It was made between 88-91 & retailed for $1150.00. . Looks almost mint & makes my new Infinity's sing. The Audio gods were smiling on me that day.

Picked up a Pioneer F-9 tuner and A-5 amp for less than $25 today at one of the local GW's. i just checked recent sales of the F-9 on the Bay and two just sold in the $125-$150 range....... :yes:

Is the F-9 missing the cover door over the controls or is it folded underneath?

They are nice tuners!

Unfortunately it is missing so if anyone out there has an old unit that they could send me a door off of..........

The door appears to just pop on to the hinges and the way this thing was sitting it is possible it could be lying back on the shelf. I was not even aware it had a door until I got home and saw pics. I was going to stop in there today and take a quick look around on the off chance it is there.

I finally came accross some good deals on a couple vintage recievers at GW:thmbsp:. I snatched up a Sansui G-5000 for $6, and a Kenwood KR-720 for $7. Both work but need some serious cleaning. The Sansui is a tank, it dwarfs a pioneer vsx9300 I have. The Kenwood is interesting how it has both analog and digital tuning displays. I'll try posting pics when I clear some attatchment room up.

. New find. An sx 3600 in the thrift today for 25.00. I go into the back and told the gal the loudness switch cracked ( it did, slightly). and could you do something? Sure, 12.00. That did it. Perfect unit, this stuff is like crack when you see it sitting there.

Yesterday I picked up a Superscope QA 450. A quad integrated amp. It isn't real big, but its heavy for its size.

25 WPC in stereo mode, 10 in quad mode. It sounds wonderful attached to my Kenwood KT-8300 and one of my pairs of Imperial 7's.

19.99 at one of the local Goodwills.

Frankly, I think I get the award for the oddest-ball of the week, if not the month.

I picked up a nice Yamaha T-2 FM-only tuner yesterday for $30. It's quite heavy for its size and it matches my C-2a preamp.

I bought it mostly as a novelty; I mean a Superscope Quad integrated? How many of those have you ever even heard of, much less seen?

But I had it running all day today, and it is really a quality unit. And whoever owned it before took excellent care of it, the switches and pots were all very clean.

Probably belonged to some old guy (like a lot of us here) who had a 30 year old kid who thought Mom and Dad needed a Bose Wave radio to replace that old junk they listen to.

Not necessarily audio but audio related. I picked up an APC Back-UPS 650 power surge protector and battery backup unit for $20 at my local SA.... hey, can our toys ever be safe enough?

WOW! I must say that is a spectacular find. I just purchased a couple of studio mics and I was looking at one of those. That is an odd find in that it was brand new in the box and it is still a current model. In fact, I think it just came out very recently.
Somebody's wife (or ex) must have been pissed!

This isnt the best find, but pretty darn good nonetheless.
Salvation Army, Electro Voice Cardinal Condenser cardioid vocal/instrument microphone new in the box. Pre-tax total??...$1.90! New price is about $200. That's a deal! And its pretty too.
