Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

I don't think my GW is going by ebay pricing unless their going by opening bids. I found a pair of very nice B&O Beovox 4307 for .99 cents each!!! I'm telling the gods honest truth.I thought there had to be something wrong with them like no drivers just empty cabinets.Hooked em up back home and they sounded great.

Have any pics?

in regard to dave's avatar....

:thmbsp:

It's in the eye of the beholder...... :scratch2:

I've been out with enough stunning looking women to know that one has to live with their personality. If that's not up to scratch, all the looks in the world can't compensate.

In the end though,if one is happy with their choice of partner, more power to ya. :thmbsp:

Kinda like Hi-Fi. :smoke:

I've been married to her for 23 yrs. and I couldn't imagine being happier.I totally agree with theophile, personality is just as important as looks. You want to meet them for there looks but you stay with them for personality. And when we get older looks fade but personality remains.By the way thanks XWARP and no I didn't find her at Goodwill.

Just picked up a Technics SA-510 receiver for $10 at the local Goodwill. A new Class A unit. From the net 60w per channel. Unfortunately leaving for the daughters today for Christmas. So won't get to try it out until I return.

I just picked a Pioneer SX-1250 receiver for $2.00 at my local thrift. I told the supervisor there a few weeks ago that I would buy most of their stereo electronics even if it didn't work. They told me if they couldn't get stuff working or if speakers had rotted surrounds, or were otherwise scratched or beat up, they ended up in the dumpster.

Apparently the guy that dropped this off said that it worked, but when they hooked it up, they couldn't get anything out of it.

The cabinet is in real good shape, better than my SX-1050 & other than needing a good cleaning, the rest of the receiver is in great shape too.

To go with the Polk speakers I picked up earlier in the week, here's a picture of the Sony TA-AX301 I bought the other day.

On top of it is a Kenwood KT-31 that I found at a different GW a couple of months ago, and forgot to mention here.

Joes Garage act 1
B-52s (selftitled)
Supertramp indelibly marked
Jethro Tull Aqualung
2 other Jethro Tull
4 early genesis (still with peter)
all vinyl pristine, covers must have gotten slightly damp, as they have the wave effect happening. (im missing titles as these are all christmas pressies for my wife, and they are hidden in daughters room, who is still asleep plus..i think i forgot 2..there were 12 albums in all)
For $50 , Im happy enough.

Goodwill

I think this is a good find at Goodwill..A Zenith Allegro Solid_State Console Stereo works perfectly for $3.99. AMFM, 8Track, and Turntable, beautiful wooden cabinet. I am having difficulty finding sites to find out the age, or info, manufacture date, etc. Zenith Oracle doesnt go beyond the 40's. Guessing this unit is about 80's or so. Will post a pic later this week. I think I got one heck of a deal. The owners manual alone is worth $5 online. Already made a 25% return on my investment.:music::music::music:

Anything with an 8 track will date from approx 1970 to 1976-78, depending on wh o made it. Most all of the manufacturers had switched over to separate components by 1980 at the latest.

Zenith had a habit of making the front plate of their consoles completely of plastic by the late 60's at least the lower ended ones.

The sound however wasn't bad, compared to a Magnavox.
