Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

For some reason all the collectible hi-fi stuff is long gone by the time I make it to a thrift but last year at a GW I scored an RCA EP-2, Elvis Presley edition record player from 1955 commemorating The Kang's historic signing with RCA.

In fair condition, $14.99

mc2105 dropped on head

Yep almost broke my back getting this home - hoof/bus/subway/subway /bus/hoof from a goodwill for 15 skinnies. Well though the glass was smashed and a variety of dings and surface rust, it powered up, lights on, both meters work, and yea!
Both channels work!
With some hum equal in both channels which is why i arrived at this fine establishment today. Mighty fine entertainment value!

The days that keep you going

I have been scrounging a round the GWs and SAs for a while. Today was a good day.
Harmon Kardon HK CDR2 Two tray cd recorder for 1.99. One tray does not open but for that price hopefully I can fix it.
Rotel RX600a Reciever Pretty grungy but all there and defifinatly in need of a cabinet refinish.
DCM sub-710 subwoofer powered. Has two down firing woofers. I think I am going to give this a try. I am not huge on bass but sometimes would like to add a little bump with some set ups.
It has been a while since I found something so this keeps me going.

opossumcrush -- those Ohms will sound nice once they're refoamed! They look like my E2's would be if I did the 3-way upgrade.

well i can finally add to this thread.

I picked up 4 Allen Organ HC10 speakers, and a Technics Sa-818 receiver from a local church for free.

Answered an ad on craigslist and turns out i was the first to call.

Somebody has replaced all the drivers in the speakers.....they are basically brand new except for the cabinets. The receiver looks new, except that the tuner doesnt seem to work

The receiver was $850 new in 1979, the speakers were $599 each in the 70's

Carver TL-3220
Yamaha CR-820
Sansui AU-717 / TU-717

all for $55 .......I can hear the "BS" callers already! :D

Thief!!! :scratch2::music: Serious envy, especially with the Sansui gear.

Boston Acoustics A60

A60 Series 1 for $15 from the SA. The cabinets are a bit rough with the vinyl veneer peeling in a spot or 2, but no real bad corner damage. A couple pulls in the grill cloth but the badges are intact. Tested them out in the store and the drivers all work. I picked up new foams right away - $5.20.

Picked up a nice Realistic STA-120 receiver at GW today for $19.99, cleaned it and replaced one fuse light. Works great never was to fond of Realistic but I have to say it does not sound bad. Last week I also pickup a pair of Marantz Imperial 6 speakers also for $19.99 and I'm very impressed with these for a two way speaker, nice cabinets. Not sure if these were a good deal but it's stuff that I don't see very often.

I think you did just fine on the Imp 6s for $20. I'm not familiar with that Realistic, but the one receiver of theirs that I've owned was quite nice.

Gotta love these little beach towns garage sales. Not your ordinary garage sale find.
McIntosh MR 78 Tuner
McIntosh C 26 Preamp
Carver TMF 15 CB Amp
Nakamichi RX 505 cassette deck
And a very cherry set of La Scalas.....whew
Granted, I did give 600 for it, but this may top the SX 1980 I found a few years ago for 40 bucks...
