Sorry folks, been working on the back panel. I have to purchase a large flatbed scanner:sigh:. So I can make a template for a silkscreen. I want to invest in a large scanner so that I can to other pieces like the larger 4400 when the time comes. This way I can do fronts too:yes: I also am selling some things on the bay so that I might make some cash. I'll continue to post here and there till the project is complete. I won't let you down. Thanks to all for the + replies. Very supportive!

To those who have been wondering what happened...The project has been put on hold for the time being. My wife ruptured a disk, it went in against her spinal cord instead of out. She had to have emergency surgery to keep her from becoming paralyzed. Everything turned out ok. Might be a few weeks before I post again. Family does come first.

Revival of the 1060 project!!

Ok so it is now January 27 2011. My wife is ok, are second son was born December 15. After the surgery, and complications they called him the miracle child. He is as healthy as can be! Now that things are back to somewhat normality its time to finish this project. I'll be posting new pics soon......

revived 1060 poject!

Tonight I made the LED "driver" board. I used an old marantz circuit board I had laying around. Looks a bit more authentic. There is a picture below. I also included a picture of one I did a long time ago(cut out of tv circuit board). I think I am going to mount the new one the same way. There is a perfect spot between the power supply and pre amp. I just have to elevate it a bit with a z or u bracket, maybe even a brass standoff:scratch2:. I should have the back panel done by the end of the week:thmbsp:. I have some caps to replace:yes:....more to come...

Here it is installed. I decided to use a 1/2 inch brass standoff. Works perfect! I also cleaned and polished all the rca jacks.

This is an excellent job - I'm in the middle of a complete 1060 overhaul also (thought your job looks much nicer!!).

Can you share the specifics on the LED board? Did you just jump the 8V off the power supply board?

Thanks! Led circuit is from...
Audiokarma.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=55510&d=1185344962. Although the led will work on AC I don't like the way it blinks 60 times/second. This circuit solves the issue. I have also made fuse type bulbs this way. I used smd components(very sensitive to long term heat) with 2 bright led's. All squished into a fuse type bulb(Plastic tube(6mm) with silver ends.)

xicon caps garbage?

I saw a recap of a 510m around here somewhere. In the garbage pile were a bunch of xicon caps. Another member said something like its nice to see those cheap xicon caps removed. I used these on my power supply so far. Why didn't anyone tell me they were garbage? So I have decided to use all nichion audio grade caps. Thanks to Sir.Byrd for providing the cap list.:thmbsp:

Hey, no problem! I wasn't going to say anything because I wasn't 100% sure they were garbage.
If you haven't done the whole amp in them (and maybe even if you have...) I would go for the Nichicons!

Ok here we go...since reprinting back panels is out of the question right now. I decided to purchase one from the chop shop going on now on epay.:scratch2:. It was in nice condition. A lot better than that rusty one I had. I've cleaned it up, and installed a few things. Tomorrow I should have it reinstalled on the unit. New rec/play plug. Made in China:thumbsdn:. I've also decided to use all Nichicon electrolytics from now on. They are not that all expensive and Micheal Percy has great prices on the big'ns. More pics Sunday night.

Good to hear that your wife is doing better! I can see how that could distract you from the 1060 project. Anyway, it's looking good, and I approve of the decision to go with Nichicon caps. I use Panasonic FC in most of my projects.

Getting closer...update now continues!

I've got the back on. I need new speaker terminals:thumbsdn:. They are extremely rusty. Going to check out the "chop shop" on ebay. Next is the good old recap:thmbsp:.

wouldn't be stock, but I'd probably look at upgrading to some banana plug sockets for the speaker connections, personally. I strongly dislike the speaker connections on my 2230, I like the ones on my 2265 a lot more.
