Ground up on a 1060!

Man, this is a fun thread to follow...

Just an fyi, I know this is a little late, but fleabay has a 1060 chasis listed right now. Looks to be in pretty good shape. No affiliation. YD
 
Updates!!!

Here are some update pictures. Compared to the condition I bought it in. I think it is turning out well:yes:. Installed the three large ones. All wired up. All that has to be done...main amp...little measuring, adjusting and then listening. I am praying to the radio god's that all the tranistors are ok:yes:. I hope they are listening!:thmbsp: I noticed some of larger solder terms. had a blue mark on them. I did the same thing with a blue sharpie. I also polished the clamps. It's all about the details:yes:. You know it would be nice to do this for a 9-5er. I wouldn't mind doing this kind of work for a living. Its fun, and challenging. I could be like the Chip Foose of radios:scratch2: Anyhoo, I should have the rest of the parts early this week. Thanks for all that have had positive, and helpfull coments throughout this thread:thmbsp:. Patients too.....

I'm not sure why such a detailed restoration was necessary.

Judging by the pictures taken when you got the 1060, it looks like some Rustoleum on the transformer and a little DeOxit on the switches would bring 'er back like new! ;-) All seriousness aside, that's some mighty fine work. As a former 1060 owner, I'm jealous mine didn't look that good when it was new!
 
Nice Gold Tunes! You're gonna be proud of this thing every time you fire it up for a listen. Astounding attention to detail.

You do excellent work. After viewing all those pretty 'innards, it will be a shame to cover them up with the metal case - how about one in clear plexiglass?:yes:

That would be cool:thmbsp:. I could add accent lighting inside:yes:. Kinda like ladscape spot lighting on trees. I could do the same thing with the large caps, and transformer. Cool. Damn it I am going to have to get more blue led's:D. Maybe on the next one. I am itching to build a tube amp next.

Almost Complete!!

All back together. I powered her up. Connected her to a Marantz 28(bench receiver), and my new trift find speakers, Bozak B-301CD's:D. Whole lot of nothing but stattic:tears:. How can this be?:scratch2:. So I went to unplug everything. As I did so I bumped the banana plugs. There was milisecond of perfect clarity. Whats going on? The damn banana plugs were touching. Kind of a tight spot for noninsulated plugs(if they even make such a thing). So I wrapped them with tape.
Second try................ OUTFRIGINSTANDING:D:D:D:D:D:thmbsp:.........YES.....THE RADIO GODS WERE LISTENING!!!!:yes:. I don't know why:scratch2: but she works perfect. The SOUND is amazing. No obseen stattic or hum with volume up and no input. Crisp CLEAR highs, warm mids, and the bass really hits nicely. Had the 28 volume at 7:00 and the 1060 at 7:00 I had to turn it down more. Unfortunately I sold my o-scope. So I used the dmm and set the voltage at 32.75 volts per channel. Nice humble voltage. Did other adjs according to the service manual. There are some pics below. It's late... I will update again tomorrow.

Nicely done, beautiful stuff. The most interesting project I have seen on this site. :) I only wish for clearer pictures. Perhaps during the day you can take a new one, it is easier to take sharp pictures in daylight. :)
 
for a more professional look than electrical tape, get some red and black heat shrink and wrap the banana plugs in that.

This really was alot of excellent work - - thanks for sharing it all with us and helping me with my 1060 refurb. I'm hoping to be where you are after another package from Digikey arrives :tears:
