In the 430, the Mono/Stereo switch is located after the tape monitor switch and before the Tone/pre-amp board. So the circuit after the Mono/Stereo switch is good. Clean the tape monitor switch and clean the input selector switch.

There may be an FM mute relay like in the 730. If you have a way to test for signal, check both sides of the relay. The relay is most likely a reed switch type.

You could try tapping on the relay, but a reed type relay is quite different than a standard relay.

Not sure if this is what you mean but when I just recently purchased my HK430 the left channel was not working. All I had to do was fiddle with the tape monitor button and the channel started working. ...but I'm a new to all of this so...

I found a HK 430 twin last week at a local thrift. It powered up, but no sound. Checked it out and 4 fuses were blown. Pretty common problem from what I have read here and on the Klipsch board. Replaced those and presto, sound, but only from the left channel. The pots and switches were filthy/sticky/scratchy. I had to clean them five times before everything started working. Removing the face plate was an absolute must and made the difference in the end. From what I have read, sticky switches and scratchy knobs are common with the HK 430, so, if you haven't already or haven't in a while, clean that thing like you never have before. My 430 now sounds beautiful. In fact, I like it so much, I think I am going to attempt my first complete restore.

Hi all,
I have a Harman Kardon 430 that I bought in 1976.
The knobs seem to be well attached, but they just pull straight off.
Edit—
I found these instructions for removing the face plate on another thread:
1. Remove the top -- 6 screws
2. Remove the silver side pieces -- 2 screws for each piece
3. Remove the bottom screws -- 5 screws
4. Slide the face plate off
