Nor have my wife and myself. I worked in WTC 1 and we lived across West Street from the WTC complex in Battery Park City. We were very lucky in that we were on vacation that terrible day and thus were spared the horrors that my friends and co-workers endured. Tons of stuff that was never reported, like the poor bastards who were cut in half in the lobby when the jet fuel poured down the elevator shafts and cut them to pieces. Or Mike our security guard who while sitting at his desk in the lobby of our office heard the screams of the folks who happened to be in the elevators when the jet cut through the cables. The cars sent down the shafts with no hope as he listened to the screams.
Evacuations went through the Tall Ships bar on the ground level on West street. NYC firemen would look up and tell a group of people to run. They would stop the evacuation when another person or group of people could not face the flames and would jump from the upper floors. The firemen would then clear the next group until the next person could not take the pain of the flames.
My brother in law Kevin died from gliablastoma he contracted being overrun with debris while running down West street to the Battery. My wife contracted melanoma while we continued to live downtown, refusing to leave even though our neighborhood was shot to ****. So yeah, 9/11 is very real to those of us who worked in the Treasury market downtown and lost so many friends we stopped counting and looking at the obituary pages. Do not allow these bastards try to rewrite history.

Not a chance. Like Kennedy, Etched in my mind forever
I didn't forget but I also felt like I had to take an emotional vacation away from it for most of the day. I have previously sat and watched the memorial service some years and I end up crying. The pain is still there. And then you see some of the brave kids from parents that were lost and they amaze me with their dignity and grace. One young man was urging people not to choose hate and that was inspiring.
I remember where I was when I heard that Bobby Kennedy had been shot. I was at the Dairy Queen. And I remember hearing about some guy named Sirhan Sirhan... Watched it on the news later. 9/11 was a whole different level of violence. Like a very bad movie but real life. What did the two have in common? Both were done because of the Middle East. SIrhan Sirhan because of Israel and the Palestinians. Bin Laden because of US troops in Saudi Arabia.
I know you were talking about JFK but that triggered my memory of Bobby.
I remember the day President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. I came home from school and my mom was crying. My after-school cartoons were preempted by the news bulletins. I was 6 years old. And very upset about the cartoons.

I certainly won't forget the event - I mean, how could you? So, forgetting is not an issue to me. HOWEVER, I have a concern that the country has to move on from just mourning to seeking real justice, because it was the largest demonstration of government stupidity, incompetence, failure, weakness, and duplicity in the Nation's history. It SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED - FULL STOP!
To make it worse, no accountability was accepted by anyone, or any agency. To make it even MUCH WORSE, the air quality at the pile was absolutely known and measured as TOXIC TO HUMANS, and yet - after the massive failure, officials lied, over and over and over, that the "air was safe" - and this led to the prolonged death of thousands of HEROES who worked the pile in the aftermath. So each year that we mourn the 2900 initial victims, the LIARS, INCOMPETENTS, DECEPTIVE MANIPULATORS, CONTRIBUTORS TO THAT MASSIVE FAILURE are living grand lives, collecting big government pensions, behind MASSIVE WALLS of slathered on cover up.
With no accountability coming for 25 years, the nation has to endure its UTTER FAILURE every September 11th. The dead, the living, and the terminally sick deserve more than mourning, they DESERVE JUSTICE. The Nation deserves justice.

Oldest brother was in the Pentagon when the plane hit the other side. Forgetting won't happen. He passed a month ago.
Was home sick from school. Was 9 at the time. Watched it happen as the motorcade was on all 3 stations. Jumped up ran to the kitchen and told my mom. She didn't believe it at first.

I hope we don't forget. Especially after we've been stirring up the hornet's nest in the Middle East recently and need to be more vigilante now than ever.
It's seems like we're getting more complacent which is worrisome. I saw in the news that the DHS is relaxing security rules at the airports such as allowing unticketed people past security checkpoints and some other measures that were enacted after 911. Not a good idea at this time IMO.
