Hearing Aids, general discussion

With the recent change in FDA laws governing hearing aids many HiFi manufacturers now offer options.

You can carry spares for fast replacement, I do.
Hearing aids may come with a soft pocket caddy to carry replacement zonc/air power cells. There is also usually a tool with a cleaning brush and cleaning wire loop, with a small magnet at the brush end to make handling the tiny cells much easier.

Hi, Well thanks for the links, unfortunately Shennies to expensive, up to $1200 OK. Bose have ear pack at the rear that I cannot use. The Jabbas in ear I could use, but they have quite a bad 1 star rating & only connect to i-phones again.!!
I suppose I am just going to have to wait another year or 2, until the market opens up more. The equivalent here in NZ is $4000+

Cheers

There are other less sophistocated options classified as hearing amplifiers that cost significantly less. They tend to lack the fine tuning capabilities of more expensive models but may still offer you some benefit.

I bought a pair from.Amazon for my 91 year old father in law, he does hear significantly better with them but does comment that everything is louder, not just voices.

- Unfortunately from $5400 in NZ!!
- I have since found out the Sony units work as hearing aids with Android, but do not connect to Bluetooth, crazy
Cheers

Like a lot of folks who get older need hearing aids...as did I. Did tons of research but focused mainly on reviews of musicians and audiophiles. I ended up with Oticon Opn S. Expensive at $6000.00 but I wanted to hear as normal as possible. Reviews told me these were the ones. So, I've had them for a couple of years but I keep wondering what am I missing. I was blown away when I put them on for the first time. It was though a blanket had been removed between me and the source of any sound. While listening to my system I would turn the aids on and off to hear the difference and the difference was worth the cost. I would compare it upgrading your $ 1000. speakers to a pair 0f $6000.00 speakers. So to me, worth the expense.
BUT, and there is always a BUT, how much normal or natural sound am I missing? I don't think there is an answer to the question. What I'm leading up to is a quandary that I've been having since I got the hearing aids , should I upgrade the speakers? The only solution, go to the store and listen to your brand and some upgrades and see if spending more would be worthwhile.
At some point, regardless how much you spend you simply run out of room and end up spending thousands to hear a 1% increase in sound. Not worth it IMHO.

Who out there has run into this? Have you found it worthwhile to upgrade your speaker? Did you upgrade only to find out after a month or two is was all in vain? What hearing aids do you use or a the most happy with. They are like headphones/airbuds in many ways...many brands, cost varies, sound reproduction varies.

I don’t have this issue yet, but I’ve pondered it. It’s comforting to know hearing aid technology allows you to continue enjoying audio.

Start your journey by going here:https://www.truhearing.com/
You will not find a better priced hearing aid than at Truhearing. They carry every imaginable aid there is. I was looking at $5000-7000.00 hearing aids before I found Truhearing. With my aids, I have 4 music settings programmed into them..unbelievable what they do. Good luck on your journey.
Nope - I just called TruHearing and they wanted my contact info and all kinds of invasive info, and never did
get around to letting me know who might be the providers in my area ... They also kept asking for my insurance provider
and didn't seem to get who Medicare was (they asked me what state is that??).
I finally apologized and just hung up. I can't help stupid.

Get a Costco membership. Go to Costco and get a hearing test. Get hearing aids from Costco. 1/2 the cost of going through what you have gone through. Only problem is insurance won’t cover it. But with the savings, you’re still cheaper than the other guys. IMHO.
Yes, I have hearing aids.

Okay, let me backup and give my basic intro post to this thread. I have Medicare & no other major insurance.
I've noticed my left ear seems to be lesser than my right ear. When I lay on the sofa next to Emma,
if I am on her left side, and roll onto my right ear, I cannot hear her as well.
So, I got a referral from my Family Doc last month and went in for an Audiology test this morning.
As expected, both ears roll off the higher freqs, so I set up an appointment in early Jan to discuss equipment
and possibilities. She said prices vary between $2500 and $7k.
Seems like it also might be worthwhile to restart our Costco membership!

Look at the Costco Jabra Enhance. I have the Starkey hearing aids. Costco doesn’t carry those. Jabra Enhance get rave reviews.
I have them. As they are the only HAs I've ever had, can't comment on comparisons but I'm super pleased. An awful lot depends on the tech who sets you up.
Costco Jabra Enhance (which is totally different from Jabra OTC amplifier HAs) was way cheaper than Phonak Lumity (which was a very nice HA in my trial) with insurance.
BTW, the Jabra Enhance thru Costco is a rebranded mid tech level Resound Omnia.
I spent months reading & shopping. It was an important purchase to me & I didn't want to muck it up.
