HK 330B noise (solved)

330b transistors

The transistors are 22 cents each but 14 cents at 10+ and 6 cents at 100+ from Mouser.

Postage will be $7.

So, get lots, do them all. Postage probably won't even rise if you get all new caps and do them.

FWIW, I recently picked up a "noisy" 330B from AK're fanghorn. I replaced the 2SC458 and she's quite. I'll re-cap later. I fix first, then restore.

I am to do this on mine, just swapped in new outputs I did use MJE15032's, also the 1000uf caps got replaced by 4700uf's. So far all good, ran it 4hr or so and will run all day -

Digikey ships these transistors for $3.22. Now I just need to locate the 2SC458's that need to be changed.

Last issue: Stuck signal strength needle. What to do?

I'm resurrecting this bad boy. 10 years baby!

So i have a 330B, I had the noisy phono stage. I have replaced the transistors and also recapped the board. The "noise" is gone.......BUT........ I've lost gain in one channel. The left channel is easily 70 percent quieter on the board now. Almost like the RIAA curve is missing from it. no bass, no volume, very tinny. (it's def the phono stage, I flipped the output leads of the board and the drop changed channels)

It was low before i recapped, that was my second step after the transistors. The transistors are oriented correctly.

Can anyone guess what it might be on the board? All that's left are the resistors and the 4 green drops. I checked the 101k drops they are fine. I heard these drops rarely fail.

Thanks
