How long has it been since you bought a piece of gear?

I was going through some buy buy buy anything that's decent and a good deal, and then binge and purge phases for the last couple of years.

but since my last big purge, selling on CL, CAM, and a garage sale I haven't bought much.

in the last 3 months, I bought the following

panasonic SP-10 -10$
Minumus 7 -2$
Chip amp kit - not complete yet
big honking JBL speakers -40$
Fatman tube amp - 300$
Nitty Gritty RCM - Trade and shipping - 50$
pile of assorted records 400$-ish

I have gotten rid of (sold, given away, etc) in the last 3 months;

about a dozen pairs of speakers
5-6 CD players
7 TTs
4-5 receivers
4-5 amps
HK citation 1, 2, & 3 set
pile of Heathkit stuff, 'bout 6-7 pieces
total sold, maybe 3000$

I have sitting around unused:
4 amps,
5 TTs
1 cd player
4 pairs of speakers

some I keep as testing gear, or I just cant part with it.
I do have a pile of stuff in the garage that I want to get rid of still.

Mostly stuff people gave me when cleaning out their basements, that I couldn't refuse because they hauled it all the way to work for me.
Lots of BPC there.

I think I am a lot more selective now, Usually stick to good items, that are good deals. mostly boutique brands, and higher end units.

This stuff was taking over for a while, but as I am selective, and get rid of about as much or more than comes in, I think I have found a good balance.
Aside from obvious upgrades to my system, I pick stuff up to play with, or to pass on to a good home.

I still have a TT addiction though, Cant seem to pass on a good one for a reasonable price....

It's been over a year for me. As a mattter of fact I've just gotten around to rebuilding my audio suite in the basement and incorproating the last integrated I bought into it. I did not hit a single garage sale or thift this summer. Oh ....wait... there was the 40" Sony Bravia that I bought in February...does that count?

Hoarder

I have been buying alot of gear not aimlessly though. Now I have alot of gear that has to fixed for one thing or another. I have bought toomany receivers, and wish I had a tape deck and a reel to reel. Hopefully I can make some trades or something!

its been 28 hours :D. Snatched up an Adcom GFA-535II off of CL for $50. Just needs a fuse, which I havent gotten around to getting yet.

About a month, my classification:retired hoarder :D.

Likewise, kinda -- my last purchase was a pair of JBLs that I probably won't get around to playing with for a while, and will doubtfully ever be a part of my system.

I haven't put a new component in my system in a while, but I know eventually I'll see something locally that I'll really want to have. It just gets harder to find upgrades, and I don't have $$$$$ to spend on new gear. I like my setup enough that I'm not swapping stuff in and out anymore, so it's a game of.....patience. :)

Bought a Kenwwod amp 10 days ago and some used vinyl last Friday. Hit the SA today and passed on a Yamaha tape deck-had issues, also passed on a denon dcd had issues too. Will hit a few places tomorrow looking for vinyl.

August was a pair of Klipsch Cornwall II's. September was a McIntosh MC-2105 Amp and a C-26 Pre-Amp. (Birthday gift to ME!). I have been a good boy this October, although I need a pair of outdoor speakers.......Maybe I'll ask for them as a Christmas gift! that won't count, Right???

I order to exercise some control over audio spending have created a list of 15 items I want and will only buy from this list (famous last words). In addition, the price must be at the low end of what items are going for.

Last time I bought was yesterday - Ortofon MCA-76 headamp. Was at least 1/3 below the lowest auction price I have seen. Reason to buy is that I'm attempting to reacquire all the cartridges and associated equipment I have had. Now need to find the MC20, at a highly flippable price, that went with this.

If I stumbled on a pair of MK III's at a decent price tonight, I'd buy them too. Like I said, some things you just can't pass up, but I wouldn't go looking for a pair...

Yeah, I couldn't resist. Picked 'em up for the cost of the transformers. They arrived yesterday.

been at least 6 months i think...small living space means ever more selective purchases...thats the theory anyway....:sigh:

well, I bought thru A'gon some used Lovan 600 low rider speaker stands on thursday last week...for my JBL L-96 in the missus system.

Two days.........though it was cheep, bought an AT cn5625al to mod out a bit, but mostly just to play around with:thmbsp:

Hk 430

i picked up an HK 430 off CL two days ago . beautiful condition . it`s doing computer duty now , sounds great
HAHAHA Same here (HEAR?)
A very nice, understated and clean design, visually.
Picked one up curbside three months ago, across from the Montclair State U. campus.
Cleaned her up, opened her up and sprayed around some Deoxit and Fader lube, and she's now in my night table/IKEA stand, driving a pair of BA Satellite minis and an Infinity sub from a yard sale, tethered to the Macintosh desktop across the room with a headphone plug -RCA adapter- 12 ft. interconnect.
OH, the thread question...I buy SOMETHING every week at least, at least LPs, CDs, and tapes, at yard sales mostly, but I'm getting more selective, and giving more away to my co-workers/ kids.
I live in a tiny tiny apt., but it's the thrill of the hunt that gets to me. It is a disease.
I did get a pair of Arcam 1M interconnects for a song, in the mail today. A pair of steel speaker stands, another song, last Saturday, a few albums, still sitting in the car. Oh, I forgot the B&O RX2 TT, great condition, 1980s vintage, and a Nakamichi model Cassette 2 deck, also clean as a whistle. Iput that one on my desk at work. Both for stoooopid low prices. I couldn't pass them up.
Have fun, everyone.
