I broke my sx1050.. maybe

Hello, so I had an accident today and my sx1050 fell off a table. Now the right channel does not work..
What can be done?

Someone just needs to trace the signal to see where it gets lost. Could be a broken PC board that needs to be repaired, or maybe a fuse popped out? Don't remember if there are any board mounted fuses in that unit.

Chances are you could have broken a board or connection/connections.

Looks like there are 4 fuses on a board you access by removing the bottom panel.

Check to see if one popped out.

Opened it up .the fuses look fine,
And it's powered up just fine

Sounds like you’ve voided the warranty.

Presuming you feel competent first step us to open it up and start examine for broken parts. Pay attention to any tiny debris that you see.
Otherwise it’s off to the $$$ repair shop.

If you don't have the skills things could get pricey - if you could find someone to fix it.
If there aren't any repair shops in your area then you should try to seek out a hobbiest who would take it on for you.
Or sell it as broken.

I might be willing to take it on I've got soldering skills and the tools..

It was not plugged in at the time of injury And as i said, no broken parts.

Unplug the 2 jumpers on the rear. Replace with an RCA cable but criss-cross them (right out to left in, left out to right in.
If the bad channel changes sides that tells you that the power amp section is OK and it issomething prior to the PRE OUT where the jumper is located.

Okay, I pulled out the jumpers, crossed them like you said, and i'm still only getting the right side

Check around the feet for any chassis bending or warping. Take the top off and check around the transformer for the same. Bending/warping could cause contact to another chassis part, creating a short. Remove the bottom plate with the feet and see if anything jarred loose

Okay, I pulled out the jumpers, crossed them like you said, and i'm still only getting the right side

OK, that tells us two things

1) both channels are OK up to the pre out jacks

2) something is not right past the right channel main in jack

The thing is with PC board breaks, is that it could be a hairline crack that isn't easily seen.

I would be looking at the driver board and the board with the fuses very closely for cracks.

Have you downloaded the SX-1050 service manual?

Have you tried hooking your speakers to the "B" or "C" output?
Have you tried headphones?

Next thing I'd do is remove the bottom plate and look at the wires connected to the left side amp section. They are solid wires and tend to break - give each one a gentle tug. If broken then obviously reattach.

Next let confirm the amp is getting power - this is probably OK since one channel works. check:
Pins 5 and 16 should be ground
Pins 1 and 20 should be around +60 volts (referenced to ground)
Pins 5 and 16 should be around -60 volts (referenced to ground)

Now, look at the back of the PCB where the medium sized power transistors are mounted on the heat sinks (not the big finned ones) and see if there aresolder cracks where they affix to the PCB.
Next check the entire PCB for solder cracks - they may be small hairline cracks and hard to spot.

I'm sure it's something simple you'll need to fix - the hard part of course is figuring out what it is.
