I tried both of those. I also tried replacing the cables completely, switching the tubes around, blowing on the connectors, and lastly, turning the phono pre on and off again. Still buzzes like a swarm of bees.

I am not too sad though. I only spent 40 dollars on it, and with its death, I can find something else out there that will not only last longer, but will work better. With that in mind, what are some good phono pre's, tubed and non tubed?

Now that I think about it, getting a phono pre might not be the best option right now. A better decision would be to save up for the Technics 1200 (which has an internal amplifier*). Right now, I am using an extremely vibration-prone LX-250, which won't work out in the long run if I want to continue to improve my setup. Its also an incentive for me to save up, which I need right now since I have money.

Just checked, and no it does not. that's my fault for that error.

Get a Schiit Mani 2. You’re not going to find much better at that price point. Avoid a TT with a built in preamp.

Dam, My Luxman 505uxii puts me out of the Audiophile game too when it comes to plugging my P3 into it, but it's all I got and I was told I would need to spend close to $1K to rival the internal phono....oh wellNow that you are an audiophile, using a turntable with a built-in preamp may disqualify you........

Well, they're just extra beefy RCA cables, so I guess I have a lot of stuff I can plug them into.

You missed it, I meant that there is nothing wrong with expensive cables if you have comparable expensive gear to plug them into. Expensive cables on a $100 30 year old receiver may be useless

ahhhhh, I see. Well, in that case, I might want to hold off until I get the Technics 1200, that way they'll really be worth it.
