Anybody remember 60`s TV personality Zacherley ? He was a cadaverous figure who hosted a late-night horror movie fest called "Chiller Theater". Later, he was offered an "American Bandstand" type afternoon dance show that was broadcast on UHF channel 47, out of Newark NJ (Zach remained in character, in full makeup and undertaker`s costume during these shows). He showcased up-and-coming bands, including The Young Rascals, and one day, while my friends and I were on the show, The Doors (!) made an appearance there. I recall Jim Morrison remarking to Ray Manzarek "Man....this is the weirdest ****in` set we`ve ever been on...."

Zacherley is my hero. I watched him on TV as a kid. He had a hilarious children's show. He also was a DJ on the rock station WNEW out of New York City.

I have a 2 CD set of Zacherley doing a reunion show at the station. He is in his 90s and still going strong.

Out west it was Bob Wilkin's Cteature Features on channel 2 in the bay area. Thin guy in a suit and tie. He smoked a big cigar every Saturday night showing. He would ripp on the films he was showing that night. He even had a few he found at a garage sale. He loved ripping on Ed Wood's films. There were also the old standard horror films. The show went on for some years.
