Look for an amplifier that doubles its power output as impedance is halved. Most of the higher end vintage Infinities tend to be low in sensitivity and present a fairly challenging load for amplifiers that can't handle operating in the sub-6 ohm range without it being stressful. Adcom, Threshold, Aragon, Acurus, Forte, Classe, Krell...some of those will be easier to find in the sub-$1k range than others. For a specific model that I think offers noteworthy bang for the buck, see if you can't locate a clean Aragon 4004. But certainly don't limit your search to that model. The Soundcraftsmen amps (the MOSFET models are very nice) are great choices too, but can be difficult to service. Hafler 500 or something from the XL series, GAS and Bryston also come to mind.

Thank you very much.
At present, AVR is. Denon x3600h
*I was going to use the preamp out to a dedicated external amp to drive the Infinities...

That's certainly doable, but if you want to hear more of what the Q3's have to offer, I encourage you to look for a dedicated preamp. AVR's have notoriously compromised circuitry when it comes to 2-channel fidelity. I have a friend with a few very nice, affordable preamps for sale and would be happy to turn you on to him. He may have an amplifier that could work out for you, too...all within your $1k budget.

I had Adcom 555 amp with mods years ago, along with matching preamp.
Wonder if that combo would drive em?
