Infinity RSb reincarnated

I built a separate xover for the rear emits. Here is a closeup where you can see the values. I have it mounted externally temporarily so I can tweak the values and listen to some variations. The inductor is 0.1mh

If I start another project like this, I will design a removable rear panel for the crossovers so they are more easily accessible for value changes. And for the question of is this still an RSb?, sure it is. If you take a 1978 Porsche 911 and replace the body with carbon fiber and add twin turbos and upgrade the engine management and along with the suspension, it’s still a 1978 911 - of course it is. Now if the drivers were completely replaced, maybe it starts to be something else. I considered trying some audax mids, but these infinity poly mids with the butyl rubber surrounds are sweet and the redesigned enclosure turned out way beyond expectations.

Almost forgot, I biamped them as well. With the emits and mids fed from the top binding posts and the bass drivers from the bottoms.

These are the values I ended up with for the rear emit high pass. Basically mimicked the kappa 8/9. I upgraded the parts from the earlier picture - replacing the ferrite core inductor With an air core jantzen, Dayton 1% resistors and replaced the 2.5 ohm fixed resistor with a variable 0-5 ohm 5 watt from a scrounged set of RSE that I got for $10.00...

Nice job, especially with the cork around the rear emit. have you given any thought to dampening around the rear speaker grill?
The very last generation Infinitys used foam all around the rear firing emit to catch stray reflections, I assume.

Seriously, fantastic work, man.

That was the idea with the cork and the same on the front to help with a certain bit of dampening. The rear emit grill frames that a built out of polypropylene flexible pipe have Velcro around the backside. It’s quite fuzzy on one side which breaks things up a bit along with the grills themselves.

They are 4 ohm or lower @ 150 watts in their original configuration and I understand they can go much lower than 4 ohms on occasion. After adding the additional rear firing tweeters and crossover Components I wanted better headroom for the bass woofers and lower distortion on the top end. BI amping also allows the use of amps that are better suited for the woofers and vs the mids and tweeters. I have a 240 watt high current sonance driving the woofers that can handle down to 2 ohms and a 160 watt Denon with a lower distortion curve that tops out 100,000 hz for the rest. Besides it was winter, what else is there to do when the snow is flying?

What are you looking to get into? Another set of speakers? Build or restore/upgrade an amp? I like buying and restoring speakers that might otherwise get parted out. What are YOU thinking about doing?

Now that these Reincarnated Infinity RSb's have settled in after almost 12 months, with the rear firing emit Kappa tweeters, they have become my daily speakers... Now what for my next project?
considering the stonkin' job you did with these, maybe consider a full size TOTL infinity tower, a-la RS II, or Kappa 9, or IRS delta/gamma?

Or are you looking for a totally different speaker design?

Maybe a KEF type dual concentric tweeter/midrange, with woofers....

the possibilities are endless with your skills.
