Main board and audio boards are the same according to the service manual.

Great photos but the different scales may be fooling our eyes on some things.
SCD1 has shielded transformers. Its not obvioius to me that they are bigger.
Different capacitor sizes are not obvious to me.
Vertical board at back right is higher and has trace side showing on SCD-1. It is lower and has component side showing on SCD-777. This could explain cable bundle difference. Its not obvious to me if it is the same board or different.
What about component or board tolerances? Could there be a difference there?

I think it's time for me to start looking for an SCD-777ES.

Stoffe, I know what you mean. I´ve got my last week (happy me, it has level 5+ Vacuum State Electronics modd/XLR-out):yes: I can only tell that this is a keeper and together with TAE/N1 and (as for now) Kef Q5 speaker it sounds really amazing!!!
Anyway if you are looking for one of those I can sure help you to find one. I´ve got about 8-12 replys on my ad and few of tgose wasn´t that bad
I will try to move my butt and borow a decent camera to post some pictures of my player

I think the SCD-1 has the power transformer enclosed where as the 777 has it open. Some might argue that one design is better than the other but to me they are identical. I think the mechanical aspect of these two are mostly different but the power supply side seem identical. The analog stage also looks different but the SCD1 might have balanced outputs but not on the 777.

Can you post some pics. of the TA-E1/TA-N1? I've been looking to get a set, not many around.

You can find even more in my public profile/albums. I don´t have any good digital camera and I´am using some old camcorder to make pictures I didn´t care to make that many pictures. But as we are in the final stage of deciding which camera to buy I will post better pictures:yes:

Yeah, they are a rare, just above 100 ever made
When I spoted my I knew they was onces property of Sony Sweden (demo units)=and they had a few marks here and there... But I knew that it is one of very few chances I will ever have to buy this pair and I just went for it They are build to last forever (and few days longer- just in case...). Weight of my 3 units (TAE/N1, SCD777ES) is 120 kg/264 lbs!!!Price of used equipment is never easy to decide so in the end it is your choice. Anyway I found few revies about preamp you maybe would like to read:

BTW serial number of my preamp is 500002 and Audiogons is 800002 (second units made for Europe and USA)
