Well they do have a feedback rating you could consider. I haven’t had any problems finding some titles I was seeking.

I'm zero for two buying on Discogs. But 1) that's a small sample size and 2) one of the sellers was decent about his mistake (the other couldn't care less). When you're brand-new on a site you can't really even leave NFB if you were so inclined. Makes you look troublesome and invites retaliation anyway.
My serious advice is to examine the listings closely. The best sellers are meticulous with descriptions.
What I'd really like (on eBay too) is a way to block sellers.

True some sellers only take Paypal but I have been burned by PayPal taking the side of sellers a couple times! It was only 2-3 times in the past 10 years.
I've never had a problem, but probably just lucky. I do always ask very specific questions of the seller. In regard to LP's sometimes I see listings classified as Mint that aren't actually sealed. Plus, you know the picture and main description you're looking at is the "stock" pic and description everyone uses. Trust but verify.

Is it possible to ask for actual photos? I haven't setup a account yet so I'm going in blind trying to gather as much information as possible.
Sure, setup an account and you can contact the seller(s). Just like eBay.
I've made many purchase from DISCOGS seller and all have been excellent products and experience. But that was only about 7 sellers. As others have said, ask a lot of questions, ask for pictures, and if you're confidence is bolstered by the responses, make a purchase. Good Luck!

I use Discogs sellers. Whenever there was an issue like excessive groove noise, LP not as good as they rated it, surprise pops or clicks, or whatever, I have always got a refund or even a discount if I asked.
hundreds of purchases I have made, any that didn't make my approval were returned for a refund, and that number was less than 5, and if they wanted me to return it. The only problem I hade was not in condition but being the correct pressing for the listing.
Surprised anyone has had any issues with eBay either, they always side with the buyers, not the seller.
And the good thing with Discogs is the large number of international sellers, many releases were not pressed in the U.S. so you can find plenty of sellers overseas.

I've used Discogs a few times to find specific pressings or records with unmolested inserts. I tend to buy from sellers who look like they have a physical store and have been pleased with everything I've received so far.
I have bought quite a few used albums off Discogs. Various genres. Only two were shipped damaged. I got a refund on one and another similar graded LP with the other. There are some very good Japanese sellers.
Much better luck, than with eBay, for used vinyl. Grading on eBay can be all over the ballpark.
