John Marks recommended systems

Hi TY,

Is this the same John Marks that writes for Stereophile?
I had a chance meeting with a John Marks several years ago in RI and he invited my wife and I over to listen to his system. I recall it being very expensive gear and nice sounding however...I have put together SEVERAL Vintage Audio systems that are excellent sounding for a FRACTION of any one piece of high end gear.
Sure...if I had the money, I'd like to play the HIGH END game but all in all, I am very happy with my Vintage systems. Oh...if it is the same John Marks...he is a VERY nice gentleman and also has VERY good taste in Wine!

Hi SixCats!

Yes, this IS the same John Marks who writes for Stereophile. He's also a regular reviewer for The Absolute Sound. In fact, he covered a couple of the systems shown on his website in one of TAS' "Recommended Systems" issues a while back. (Which raises some interesting questions, of course -- I'm assuming that he became a dealer for these products after his review appeared, and not before?)

At any rate, I've had the chance to hear a couple of different well-oiled systems that were based upon the Shahinian Obelisks, and these speakers are every bit as good as John Marks claims...

Those are what I listen to and I love them! I got lucky and got a pair for $750. And since they were made in the 70s I guess they could fall into the vintage catagory. A folded Transmission Line with an 8" woofer in front and a 12" passive radiator on the back, the pyramid top has on the front a soft dome mid, the sides silk dome tweets and the back a metal dome tweet. 92 db and get plenty loud if wanted using 300B SET.
