They are pretty different TTs.

I don’t know much about the a75. But it appears to be more of a high end unit. It has multiple tone arm options.

Check the tube and see how they compare.

Just got a QL-Y5F and am looking at either replacing the stylus or possibly a new cartridge. It came with a JVC Z1 cart and a cheap conical replacement stylus. For a stylus I was looking at the jICO SAS but their website states it's only available for shipping in Europe. Was looking at the AT VM540ML as a possible new cart. I don't want to spend much more than around $300 for anything. With my age and hearing it won't be worth the money. I'm using a Denon AVR-3600 to hook it up to.
Any suggestions??

I would suggest buying a working Shure body and get a Jico SAS/B. This would run around $250 depending on how patient you are when selecting which shure body to get. If you can get a V-15 type IV that would probably be great. Though, a M95 or M75 would be fine as well. Typically, from a Japanese seller on ebay, the Jico SAS/B stylus is around $230 shipped to you. I have a Shure V15 V with a SAS/B stylus(That was around $400 total) but I also have a VN-45E stylus that to me sounds extremely good. With the Vn-45E stylus, the total was $200. Also, there are plenty of AT VM540ML new on ebay from reputable sellers for less than $300.

Hi JVC QL-xx owners!

I just got a QL-7 in a bundle with a Sansui AU-717/TU-717 package, and it seems like it will be excellent! I would like to do some maintenance on the table, and maybe veneer it. Not sure how to set the tracking force and anti-skate, need to add oil to the cueing mechanism, might re-cap the drive and try to fix the counter-weight droop. Any other suggestions?

I would like to get a copy of the manual, but unfortunately my Vinyl Engine account got deleted after a period of inactivity and now they are not allowing new registrations. Could someone please post or send me a copy directly?

The cuing mechanism takes a heavy duty fluid, it not oil per se. It's the high viscosity of the oil that slows the cuing action.

Remove the spindle and clean out the old oil and add a few drops of machine oil, blue 3-in-1 is a great choice.

I have a VM530E on my QL-Y5F and like it quite a bit. It's balanced and pretty neutral without being boring and analytical, if that makes sense. Still plenty of detail. I imagine the S even more so. I don't remember why, but at the time I was looking at 540's, the deal on the 530 popped up and someone suggested that would be a better cart for the QL overall.
 
I’ve just discovered this QL owners forum. I have a QL Y 55 F which until recently was running just fine. So now the tone arm side of the table has lost power ( control panel and speed led panel ). When I press the power on button the motor starts turning by itself and that’s it. Any advice or help on this issue ? I’m living in Ireland so I am using a transformer for 100 v and bought a pretty decent transformer so I don’t think this caused the problem. Any help ?

Do you have a multi meter? Going to need to find out what has power and where it doesn’t.
 
I "may be" joining the club. Currently looking at getting a QL 50. The owner is very emotionally attached to his system that includes this table and not quite ready to part with it. He is not sure he wants to sell seperates either. So i have some time to research the QL. Noticed that there a few 50 owners on here. Any light that you can shed on pros or cons of this turntable and maybe things to look for on a used one will be appreciated.

I have the same table and have used many different carts over the years and settled on a Nagaoka MP110H (with headshell).

I was looking for some owners for a comparison on the vacuum pump but since the mat is missing I am not able to understand if the pump is still effective or if it needs an overhaul; If I had the dedicated mat I would know immediately.
 
Hello, I’m new in this “better” TT game. I just got a QL-Y33F in very nice condition with some generic cartridge, and want to fit a mc one like it was fitted from factory. Cartridge of choice is dl-103r, what do you guys think, good choice? I work at Denon retailer, so I’ll get nice discount, so Denon is my first choice. Do you think it will fit and work without any issues? Thanks for your advice, this thread is really helpful, useful and informative, I red all 42 pages in few days.
 
Fellow QL'rs, I am beginning to think about my next cart for my QL-Y5F. Currently I have an AT VMN530E that I do enjoy and have for the past 3 or 4 years, but part of the fun for me is changing it up every once in awhile.

The JVC came with a Grado F3+ that sounded outstanding as well, maybe even better in some respects, until the body of the cartridge broke (mounting tab snapped off).

I'm currently kind of looking at the Grado Opus3 as it seems to be getting a lot of positive reviews, but I am open to anything that provides a good soundstage, good separation and a great, full sound (good low end especially). I understand the newer Grado's are all bonded styli, which gives me a little pause, as it does feel a little like a step down from my AT's and my F3+.

I've been casually looking at Sumiko, Goldring, higher end AT offerings, etc. but know a lot less about them than I do the AT lines.

Anyone try the Opus3 on one of these servo controlled tables? Any other suggestions?
 
new to me JVC QL-A7, seems to have a serious spindle/motor issue, haven't opened it up yet, wanted to check first if this is likely going to require machining (because that's out of my skill range). All the buttons work, the brake engages, but the platter doesn't move at all and obviously the spindle is wobbling. Other issues are the counterweight droop and it's missing the bottom plate (neither are a big deal). Any thoughts appreciated!

First I would open up the bottom and make sure the motor is mounted correctly, etc. I couldn't tell if it was the spindle moving or the whole motor from the video. If you don't get much help here, I would post a new thread. Outside of JVC enthusiasts (of which there are maybe dozens worldwide lol) this thread doesn't get much attention.
