WOW I hadn't heard that thanks for letting us know of the sad news, RIP Keith and thanks for the memories...

I remember my one and only ELP concert back in the '70s like it was yesterday. An unbelievable group of talented musicians.

R.I.P. Mr. Emerson

One of my favorites...

KNIFE EDGE!

I can't believe only a few people have chimed-in on this thread. I guess all of us who were teenagers or in our 20's & 30's at the time are the only ones to remember. The younger generations are probably baffled when they listen to ELP... sad.

Sadly, it appears to be self-inflicted. This from TMZ:

"Law enforcement sources tell us Emerson had a single gunshot wound to the head when his girlfriend found him in their home in Santa Monica.

The Emerson, Lake & Palmer co-founder had recently been suffering from a serious medical problem -- a degenerative nerve issue in his right hand ... according to our sources. We're told he could only play the keyboard with 8 fingers at this point and knew it was only going to get worse.

As a result, he was struggling with depression."

Depression is really such a horrid disease. It destroys lives in so many ways. It also is, in its own way, contagious: someone with depression can have an impact family and friends. Its hard to treat, since those with depression often retreat into themselves and don't seek adequate treatment.

If depression helped to claim another life in Mr Emerson, its a sad day indeed.

Very sad. Such a fantastic keyboard player and the few times I met him, he was a very down to earth nice guy. Going to spin Trilogy tonight and drink a good glass of vino. RIP Keith.

That's very sad - especially as it is reported that he killed himself, I was/still am, a big fan of ELP.
