Kickstarter - Turntable Station

I think it looks like a nice little unit for the cost. I am always a bit leery of the whole Kickstarter thing but this seems OK. I wouldn't worry too much about resonance compared to many other stands. MDF is actually not some cheapie particle board, it is one of the absolute best materials for the application.

I own a Salamander Synergy rack and yes it's much nicer, but also considerably more money. I also have my secondary system sitting on a Flexxi rack and I can see this stand being considerably more solid.

Yeah, exactly, thank you. MDF is not equivalent to the **** IKEA uses for Billy, and the thing is clearly built like a tank. Whether this model holds YOUR stuff seems like neither hear nor there, but it's a nice option for those who can't splash out on the really nice stuff like Salamander.

Implying that's going to fall apart and is built like junk is just... ignorant, and based on what?

This thing is a piece of **** and they're taking an unwitting general public to the cleaners. Any positive posts here are included in that category. If it has any legitimacy as a turntable stand it will include performance specs along with any thing else that's attributed to it. A TV stand has shelves to accommodate other gear which doesn't give a lick about any thing else. These guys are pulling a smoke screen by passing off a turntable as any other component.

Just a sad pathetic testament to where Hi-Fi is ending up.

I'd suggest almost any form of plywood over MDF.
A sheet of 3/4" MDF, is about $35
A sheet of 18mm/.70" birch ply, is about $50
The labor is a wash.
This is based on retail pricing, and no quantity/contractor discounts.
Build it with quality materials, not weak materials.

MDF will begin to break down the moment that the first record tips over, and wiggles it; move it, and you've quickly advanced that break down process (the ghetto lean).

dirtloves there is hundreds of these simpel little TT stands currently on the market, they have also been makeing them since god left Chicago. So when this got posted I'm sure most members where shocked to see this new invention, and even the clame that it's needed in the vid.

I think I would personal take a flexy stand over this unit.

You mentioned racks under $400, The center one I forgot the make and I think it was around $400 new but I got it used for $150. The racks on the ends came form Office Depot for $80 each.

Seems to me like the "Turntable Station" creators could help their cause greatly by posting videos of production sample stress-testing. Additionally, their MDF "finishes" remind me of the old computer adage, "It's not a bug, it's an unplanned feature".

I think their stand is a good idea in principle, but there are too many question marks and aesthetic faux pas. What would be the WAF of bare or painted mdf furniture? Not high, imho.
