Klipsch Speaker/Wood finish Code Help

Anyone know what "B-2" wood code means? I assume it is some type of Birch but the Number 2 doesn't make sense. I haven't found anything in my research with this type of wood code.

Are they finished in black like the back panel? Normally the first letter would be C for Cornwall then B for birch and R for raw or O for oil L for laquer etc. I also don't think black was an option then? Maybe they were a special order or prototype or ???

No, they are nice wood finish which appear to be birch, but can't say for sure. Here is a side view. And BTW, I don't own them, YET...but working on it. Also haven't see them in person either. But yeah, I have never seen that code on any other Klipsch speaker tag.

I never seen B-2 designation.

Serial number says they built in 1977, it would be Cornwall I.
It's great; I personally prefer older Klipsch; they have build quality and history. Cabinets should be real plywood, not MDF.

Cabinets look like walnut veneer to me.
You'd better run to get them.

It's quite possible they are Walnut veneer. They are close in grain to my Khorns which are 82' walnut veneer but the B-2 designation threw me for a loop. I also prefer the earlier Klipsch speakers. I already have a mixed set of Cornwalls Verticals, 66' and 71'. Excellent materials used.

Is it possible the B-2 refers to the type of crossover? The B-2 crossover was used in the Cornwall.

That actually makes sense. I don't know exactly when they switched to B-2 crossovers. But then that would not be consistent with their serial label coding either. The mystery should be solved once I pick them up.

Here are the model and serial label codes form my 66' & 71 cornwall II verticals, which are more in line.

Only reason I mentioned it was on the tag it says "Type" B-2. On your verticals the tag says "model". Meaning, the "type" designation on that tag may refer to the crossover. And the "model" designation on the other 2 referring to wood and such.

But every tag I see on Cornwalls after googling etc...all have the similar basic info. finish etc. wether they are Cornwall II's or I's and regardless where the tag says "Type" or "Model". And the same applies to Khorns and other Klipsch speakers of the era. None that I have seen show the Crossover type. Probably just a anomoly of this set.

Same "tester" too?! Serial # is one off....must be your other speaker!

Thanks for the link...Those are the ones! So you were correct after all. The B-2 evidently is for the B-2 "upgraded" crossovers. Still very strange that the wood finish etc. is not listed on the tag.
