It is just a shadow of what it was in the 1970's when water was abundant, in a winter back then it would have a few hundred thousand birds. The corn fields were packed full of Sandhill Cranes and the pond down below our house typically held 50,000 snow geese at night. After several years of droughts in the 1990's the birds migration pattern changed a bit and today wildlife photographers go gaga when they see a flock of 50 cranes. The best time to go is between Thanksgiving and New Years
