Landscapes

I took this with my cell phone. Didn't have my usual camera gear along since I needed to visit the eye dr. then Costco. Cascade mountains in the background, and somewhere down there unseen is the Columbia River, which is about 700 feet elevation. I took this shot at about 3000 foot level. No processing, not cropped, straight from the phone.

Taken the same day within a few minutes of the photo I posted above. I didn't crop this but did run it through some light processing to deepen the color and add some contrast using Linux GIMP. GIMP is also available free in Mac and Windows flavors too.

The river way down there is the Columbia. Taken from about 3000 foot elevation, the river is about 715 foot elevation. This is the Wenatchee Valley. Mountains in the background are the Cascades, not seen due to clouds covering the peaks. What you see is just the foothills. A typical weather pattern where the moisture is wrung out of the clouds on the west side of the mountains and dry conditions are fairly normal on the east side. Where I live (Ephrata) gets about 11-12 inches of rain per year, a far cry from the 50+ inches in the Puget Sound region. I would have liked to wait about an hour to take these shots but I had frozen stuff in the car. The light was pretty decent, but deep shadows make for great pics.

The Mountain was out today. This view is from just down the street from where one of my childhood friends grew up.

My wife and I were just in Portland a week ago to visit friends. We took a drive up the Columbia River Gorge to see some other friends in Stevenson. It's gorgeous out there! Also snapped some pics of the mountains from the plane ride out. Can you tell which peaks these are?

It looks like the Mt. St. Helens on the left, and Mt. Rainier on the right.

Slater529 is correct. Mt.St.Helens to the left and Mt Rainier to the right. Just out of frame to the right would be Mt. Adams. The mountains along the gorge I couldn't begin to identify.
edit: I posted pics in July, 2022 from the summit of Mt. St. Helens if you want to see that view.

I went backpacking this weekend with the intent to try and get some decent photos of the trip, and I managed to get some. Just not the ones I wanted. The bugs were . so awful that I hurriedly took these and then climbed into the bivvy to escape. Hiked to Alpine Lookout. 1) Glacier Peak from the SW, about 20 mi distant. 2) Mt Rainier peeking over a ridge from the NE, from about 70 mi. 3&4) a couple panos, 5 & 6) sunrise from 6000 ft. _GJK4638.jpg_GJK4641.jpg_GJK4672_Panorama-1.jpg_GJK4768_Panorama-1.jpg_GJK4852_Panorama-1.jpg_GJK4852_Panorama1-1.jpg
