Large Advent surround difference?

OK, I've read a lot of Bold Eagle's posts on Large Advents. Must've missed that one. If you scroll down on Looneytune's site you will see a pic showing a refoamed Large Advent with the masonite ring and the surround is installed with the roll out instead of in. The roll should be in. Just makes me wonder.
Just my opinion, but I believe the foam on the masonite ring versions is inverted, because if it were installed in the normal fashion, there would be a good chance it would rub against the ring, being so close. By turning it around, problem solved. This situation does not exist on standard basket designs. A pic of the Masonite woofer, and the metal basket type. It's hard to tell in the first pic, but the roll is inverted. You can see how close to the wood it is.archie2 said:

The surround spec'd for the metal-frame Advent woofer, is the CORRECT surround for ALL advents.
The one shown above for the masonite-ring Advents, has an incorrectly-small roll width. It will both restrict travel AND change the resonance of the driver UPWARD... which will muddy the bass response.
In short, you want the compliant, large-roll surrounds for EITHER ONE. The surrounds for the metal-frame Advents will easily work on the masonite-ring drivers... I wouldn't do it any other way, IMHO.

The one shown above for the masonite-ring Advents, has an incorrectly-small roll width. It will both restrict travel AND change the resonance of the driver UPWARD... which will muddy the bass response.
In short, you want the compliant, large-roll surrounds for EITHER ONE. The surrounds for the metal-frame Advents will easily work on the masonite-ring drivers... I wouldn't do it any other way, IMHO.

Uh oh... does this mean the new surrounds I put on my Advents from PE are incorrect? I ordered the masonite surrounds.
How can I tell if they have the correct roll width? (Come to think of it, I do remember thinking that they seemed a bit small to adequately span the distance between the cone and the frame...)
How much will this affect the sound? They sound great to me right now, I'm not eager to go through another re-foaming again on both pairs of these. OTOH, If they can sound significantly better I'd be happy to do the adjustments.

Went back and looked at Loonytunes site. Seller says his are the large roll surrounds and the last 2 pictures show the surrounds inverted on Advent and Dahlquist masonite ringed woofers. Either my eyes are playing tricks on me but the surround in that last picture doesn't look inverted, hard to tell on the next to last picture because of the angle. I dunno. Anyone use his large roll surrounds on masonite advents?

You really can't tell from the pictures as there is too much of an optical illusion going on. Several AA posters have vouched for the quality and correctness of the surrounds from Looneytunes. The problem with PE is recent and Bold Eagle has apparently brought the matter to their attention. This has all transpired over the past 2 weeks or so.

After more review (Audio Asylum) it appears that PE had a packing problem with the large roll Advent surrounds. Hopefully it has been corrected. At any rate the large roll surrounds are 18 mm. So if anybody intends to order surrounds for Large Advents, with or without the masonite rings from PE double check that you will be getting the 18 mm ones which apparently match the originals.

Might should post correct PE part number. I don't see the 18mm size anywhere I've looked. What would be the correct size for the Advent smalls? I'll need one of each...
