Currently working on my A-X1100. Started out as an intermittent right channel, but discovered upon opening it a handful of the electrolytic caps were sitting in corrosive brown glue, along with quite a few of the jumpers on the PCB. Removed affected caps and cleaned up the glue. There was also a pretty thick layer of flux on the bottom of the main PCB, and a decent amount on top as well. I would recommend anyone with one of these amps cleans & inspects it sooner than later. Thankfully no serious damage has been done (yet) by the glue, but I'm replacing the caps with Nichicons while I'm in there.
I will say I am impressed with how easy this amp is to service. Lots of room to work, nothing is really obstructed, etc. Feels like a high end piece of gear that was meant to be serviceable.

With sufficient thrust, ducks fly just fine
These amps almost always suffer from bad solder joints, so check that too. Best with a magnifying lamp or something similar, since it is not always easy to spot.
The glue nor the caps usually are the problem, unless the glue has corroded other parts, like resistors and diodes.

Sadly, my Victor M-7050 fried two weeks ago. Sooo bummed. My tech has fixed it twice, and felt it was done. One difficult part to find is the Super-A Bias chip. They are in many JVC/Victor amps and receivers, so the search is on for an authentic IC chip. A bunch of resistors and I’m sure transistors blew as well. I found a completely rebuilt Onkyo M508 as a replacement, and am very curious how it sounds compared to the M-7050. Luckily I have a JVC M-7050 /P-L10 system that’s sounding great. So maybe, one day I’ll dive into the Victor once I find legit parts and have a go at it. I have another parts amp I can pirate some parts, but the Super-A bias chips have been pulled already.

I'm a audioholic and my name Geo. I've been into cranking it up since the first time I saw my neighbors Marantz or my Uncles Pioneer. Mac's, Sansui's, Akai..seems I was front row for the power wars, skateboards, tricked out Schwinn's, tube tops, short shorts and Farrah Faucet. Kiss LoveGun and kissing girls were neck in neck. The first LP I purchased, with my own bread was Frampton Comes Alive. WoW. One Xmas I asked for my own stereo and a Montgomery Wards Airline, with it's all in one 'thang' going on only more so drive me for more .more power, more clarity, more channel separation..I was a junky and didn't even know it. .yet. Looking back, I see I've been chasing a high that I had, not knowing it very well might have been some of my best. I had various mid to low models of 'hi-fi' and used or homemade speakers. Scott, JVC, AudioTechnica, Technics Sony ADC's?
It was just before my senior year my Mom, as a reward for making it that far matched my $$'s to purchase a Sansui 7900z. I had just picked up a pair of Realistic T-70's for like half off. Matched with a Linear Drive AudioTechnica, BSR 12 channel Eq and a Technics single well cassette deck, was I jumped into hi fidelity. I later added a pair of Polk S2 M10's which I didn't appreciate..not enuff bass was my rip. Damm. The T-70s are still around, but with my ex..sooo. Fast fwd a decade after chasing my little head and surviving to tell, love and marriage, kids, cars, jobs blah blah I looked around and said, hey...i miss my hi fi. All my gear had been begged, borrowed or stole..only my Lps remained...so one late winter day in 1991 I went to an audio store(remember those?) picked up a JVC RX-503 and a top loading 5 disc JVC CD changer..I was stoked..then I thought, I have no speakers and boom, to the left appeared a Radio Shack retail store..at nearly half off I loaded a pair of Mach II's in the bed of my 1988 Chevy 1500 Step Side 5.7L pick up, black with red interior bucket seats..damm.. but I miss the Mach II's more. Having owned them for a decade paired with JVC power(503 then 703) they truly were the best pair I've ever had. They knocked glaze outta windows and Sheetrock putty and nails outta walls..true that...F.F. 2 more decades and I've become a hoarder. Bluetooths and Amps integrated and Av. Jvc rules. Sansui is also a love, but now outta my $$ range. I do have an AU-719(solid!) yet JVC has a hook in me. AX1100, RX9v,RX701,801,503,703,803,777,505,705,805,807,709,715. I also like the Pioneer 604/605's and the RX7500!!...what I'm lacking is a damm good pair of speakers!! But isn't that the best part? The chase!!...LoveLove IT!

Great history, very similar to my experiences time line wise, though less gear than you through those years. I still have my R-S77 purchased in 1980 and it’s sounding great!
Now, let’s discuss speakers. I strongly suggest you look at ADS, especially the bigger boys. Their entire line sound great. The rare and amazing, L980, then 910, L1230, L1530, L880, L810, L710. If you want older vintage, (expect to do possible work on them) AR11s, AR12s-very rare one year only and excellent, AR3/3a’s ($$$$ but worth the work and investment). These are all East Coast sounding speakers which are warmer, less in your face then West Coast sound like JBLs, Altec Lancing as examples. There’s a lot of great speakers obviously besides these, but ADS, AR, as examples, have a known reputation and loyal following.

There is some great JVC gear here, I still have my rs-7 and rs-77 and love the sound of both, I don't understand why JVC was so underrated.

I think JVC saturated the market in the 90s with a lot of cheaper consumer grade rack systems, which sounded fine when new, but because it was profit driven, the quality was not what it use to be, and it didn’t last very long. Most of the major audio companies did the same, lots of plastic black, face stuff. I believe JVC just produced more for larger market share, and because of this, unfortunately their reputation suffered.
Hi. Just thought I would add this to the JVC Channel. Recently bought a JVC R7000 "Casseiver" as a repair project for £15 in the UK. It is actually quite rare and not seen many about. It had some blown caps that made the amp hum and needed a new capstan belt. It also needs new bulbs for the input selectors but not found the correct ones yet .

are they any good ? just snagged one off the bay for £10 plus postage...and awaiting delivery... something for my pc / study area... looks cool in a chunky late 70's kinda way... hoping she sounds ok and cleans up nicely... anyone else got a soft spot for these quirky all in ones ? :scratch2:

I also picked up an RS77 recently which sounds fantastic. It has a big blue Super A plastic thing on it. Could it have been a display model? No issues other than occasionally the Tuner signal strength meter does not come on and the VFD display is a bit dim. I read it can be failing diodes can reduce the voltage to VFD displays but decided that I am not going to mess with it as I do not use FM that much anymore! Everything else seems to be fine. Bias set a bit higher than service manual but I do not run it hard. DC in mid teens I think (can't remember) but good enough!

Nah, they stuck those on more often for a while. I have the impression particularly on the lower end models. Those Super-A amps sound great.

This was my JVC XL-Z1050 cdp which I owned for 17 years. During that time it never skipped a beat & always sounded smooth/sophisticated. The player has very good build quality, a good Victor transport mech, JVC's K2 processor, and nice industrial design. It punched well above its pricepoint. I later used it as a transport with a rare Vimak DS-1800Mk2 dac. Sound-wise that was an excellent combo, though I found the Vimak to be a quirky dac in operation.

I just got my dad's L-A31 and R-S77 (Super-A) combo. Took them for a service where they said it was working pretty well but did some cleaning and balancing (mainly on the turntable). Thing is I get home and I plug my headphones (Audiotechnica ATH-M50x) and right off the bat without anything playing I can hear noise (sounds like static or interference noise). I unplugged everything but the headphones and I can still hear that noise.
I'd love to test it on some speakers but sadly I don't have any pasive speakers (and AFAIK I can't use powered speakers like a pair of Mackie cr5-x).
I have never heard a good hi-fi system so maybe the noise is expected? When I play a vinyl on the turntable I can still hear the noise but I found that if I completely lower the 5kHz and the 15kHz the noise goes away.
I'll take the amp to the repair shop again next week but I'd love to know if this is a typical issue that can be solved somehow or what I should focus on.

RS77 with the big blue plastic Super A and LE 5 turntable which sounds great. By the way... just in case you think I am mad putting the turntable on top of the RS77, it is not in use at the moment and using my Technics SUV9 for the next few weeks which is next to it(not shown). I could not be bothered to move it as it is so large! TT is at an angle as I have levelled it - the floorbaords have a slight lean in that room. 70s house building!
Have you grounded the turntable? There is always some hiss on phono on almost any amp if you turn it up loud enough.

Speakers, manual, FM antenna, AM antenna, forgotten CD, remote, working batteries in the remote.. So I plug this thing in, and bloody hell it starts a whole lightshow! I can choose between like 9 colours, but at startup it runs all colours randomly. It appears to even have some kind of programmable mode.

The part I was most interested in of course, was the MD recorder. It appears to have some basic editing functions, and can dub double-time from CD. But where is it? As it turns out, this tiny machine has a "suck-face" kind of feature. Slide-and-tilting the frond down to reveal the MD, and up for the CD tray. Yes, an actual tray it is, no top loading nonsense. You also get the "Hello" and "goodbye" respectively, some other gizmo and there is a timer in it.. Man, Is there anything she can't do!

I’ve owned mine since new, 1980. Great receiver! Still sounding great today!
I present my HR-D470U Hi Fi VCR that I bought new in 1987. This VCR is unique because it loads tapes sideways. It was a little sick for a while but is now functioning quite well. It had some tired caps in the power supply and one bad cap in the servo section. Also from being flexed one time too many, 2 flex cables (Flat Flex Cables to be exact) had broken conductors. These have long been obsolete. Luckily I was able to find some on AliExpress! Now she's working great!..
