06 = Jan
5 =1970???

Member ELzekio cracked the code and it seems corrct for every JVC component I own. None of mine are that old though.
The first 3 digits are the date code.

The first two numbers are the month :

10 = May
11 = Jun
12 = Jul
13 = Aug
14 = Sep
15 = Oct
16 = Nov
17 = Dec
06 = Jan
07 = Feb
08 = Mar
09 = Apr

The third number is the year:
0 = 5
1 = 6
2 = 7
3 = 8
4 = 9
5 = 0
6 = 1
7 = 2
8 = 3
9 = 4

i am making the call that my unit is fine.

prior to 75 there was a unit called the vr5505l that had a longwave tuner as well.

Maybe the 5 is actually 1975 and they changed it later. My oldest JVC is from 1982 and that date system ELzekio came up with works for everything I have. You can verify on CD players because they have the date and month on the label with the serial number. That's a nice looking basic receiver. It probably won't fill a stadium with sound but would probably play loud enough to fill a room with efficient speakers.

yeah, maybe june 1975.
 
10 watts at 4 ohms would be about 5 maybe 6 watts RMS at 8 ohms, looks like some math is off the mark. Honestly I'd say its capable of 10 watts RMS into 8 ohms both channels driven with good caps on a 1 KHz sinewave.

This comes from the 1975 Stereo Review Buyer's Guide that was probably released late 1974 or early 1975.

yes it is and i'm down around .13%thd vs. 1%.

just finished recapping the unit and did a slight tweak to the tuner.

bulbs will be here this week.

i spent more time researching than repairing. i might have spent more time researching than i did on the actual unit itself.
