Thanks. I just finished restoring my KLH 23s. Will post some pics in your thread.Looks great!
from a 1975 jvc catalog:I don't think they were using the same serial number scheme then..
06 = Jan
5 =1970???
Member ELzekio cracked the code and it seems corrct for every JVC component I own. None of mine are that old though.
The first 3 digits are the date code.
The first two numbers are the month :
10 = May
11 = Jun
12 = Jul
13 = Aug
14 = Sep
15 = Oct
16 = Nov
17 = Dec
06 = Jan
07 = Feb
08 = Mar
09 = Apr
The third number is the year:
0 = 5
1 = 6
2 = 7
3 = 8
4 = 9
5 = 0
6 = 1
7 = 2
8 = 3
9 = 4

Maybe the 5 is actually 1975 and they changed it later. My oldest JVC is from 1982 and that date system ELzekio came up with works for everything I have. You can verify on CD players because they have the date and month on the label with the serial number. That's a nice looking basic receiver. It probably won't fill a stadium with sound but would probably play loud enough to fill a room with efficient speakers.thanks for the motivation on getting a definitive date![]()

This comes from the 1975 Stereo Review Buyer's Guide that was probably released late 1974 or early 1975.from a 1975 jvc catalog:

note it says : 20watts of power into 4 ohm. does not say per channel. the pic desc. says 11w/ch rms @1khz but does not list ohm.
i am making the call that my unit is fine.
prior to 75 there was a unit called the vr5505l that had a longwave tuner as well.
here are archived jvc catalogs:

now back to cleaning the shop.

it is notHonestly I'd say its capable of 10 watts RMS into 8 ohms both channels driven with good caps on a 1 KHz sinewave.

yes it is and i'm down around .13%thd vs. 1%.Good to confirm your original power output measurement was spot on . . .8.5 WPC vs spec of 8

Sure has a lot of iron up front for less than 10 watts/channelit is not
I finally have a dummy load so I decided to measure mine. I came up with about 9.8 W per channel at 1KHz. Not sure how accurate that is since this was my first time. I can't measure THD.well i'll be! thanks.
Holy crap!I have some JVC as well.......View attachment 3235077
Hell of a gift! Looks very clean!This was given to me recently as a gift, without the remote and door, but it works like a charm!
