Limiter OLS

I have an AKAI GXC 570D cassette player which still sounds great but I think that the limiter is not working as well as it used to...does anyone know whether those limiters ever need to be serviced.

What makes you think the limiter is the problem?

Generally, those are just a simple circuit that detects a voltage and then lowers the signal a bit as a result. There's no mechanical process involved.

Cheers,

David

well, the VU meter goes way into the red zone even when I use the limiter, previously when I would use it the VU meter needles moved just a little bit indicating that the limiter was working. I assume that it is not mechanical but electrical. There must be some way of checking the electronics of it to see which part is not working the way it used to. Thanks

The limiter circuit is probably fine. Have you considered you may have a dirty switch. Perhaps a shot of deoxit is in order.

That is a good idea, I have considered it but since I don't know anything about electronics, i just forgot it...I do have deoxit, I will try that. Thanks
