Lubricant for Gears?

Clselby

I have a 1977 Sanyo TP 1020. Soldered new RCA Cables and installed new cartridge with new stylus and man this thing sounds great. Would you guys recommend me putting some lubricant on these gears (see pic)? If so will Vaseline be okay?

If they appear to not have had any lube on them, I would not add any. A lot of trip mechanisms need to be dry in order to work correctly. vaseline is also not a good choice. It melts and runs with heat. Silicone grease works pretty well and can be found in most auto parts stores.

Do NOT lube those gears. The lube will get in the trip pawl and your auto-return will be hosed.
