Mac vs the Japanese

Very nice Accuphases!

So long as we're airing our stereo porn,
Here's a Crown PS-200 I owned briefly. They've got a great reputation for reliability, but the tar covered transformer and cables, and the hodgepodge ratsnest wiring never inspired confidence or pride for me.

Ok, after all of the jibber jabbering I have been doing :blah:, I will submit these photos of my Accuphase's and let them speak for themselves. These are of my P-360 amp and my C-260 "Control Center" as Accuphase calls it (when you see the plethora of available inputs, outputs and the ability to control them you see why).

:yes:nice

I hope the OP wasn't trolling.
MacIntosh have a proud history of manufacturing very high quality products. To request comparison with the entire output of another nation(no matter what one has in mind as being produced by that nation),smacks somewhat of a 'loaded-question'.
I've had to deal with an AK member recently who arrogantly told me on a forum that I needed to "move away" from Japanese TTs.Indeed this individual even went as far as stating about Japanese turntables(as if as an authority)"They were never the best, even the best of them".He has admitted to me that he had no experience ever with,or indeed no prior knowledge of my turntable.
The outright dismissal of a entire genre of component based on nationality of origin would have to be considered short-sighted,at least.Throw those kind of attitudes in the same waste-basket as the "My component is The World's Best".
I'm hoping that the OP wasn't 'agenda-ridden' in posting this thread, because Brand Snobbishness degrades the whole tone of AK.
If a component is well-made,durable and sounds awesome,I couldn't give a hoot which manufacturer made it.Bringing nationality into considerations about quality, which is exactly what was initiated in this thread(to me)smacks of an agenda.
A better title for the thread might have been:
"Mac vs The Best Japanese"
or
"Mac vs The Best foreign components"

The title of this thread(as it stands)enables a consistently High Quality brand to be compared with any output from the nation of Japan, and it's obvious from more than one reply that this is exactly what is being done. The rebuff, has been the posters who are proving that isn't a one-sided argument, that comparing the output of MacIntosh to
anything less than the best of the Japanese components,is comparing apples to oranges.
Thanks to all,who have posted their nudies. There has been some incredibly impressive items for us to salivate-over.
Let's now compare the Best that the Japanese manufactured,to MacIntosh. It's more appropriate.

good thing this thread isn't in the toob forum, and more general on countries of origin or I'd hafta whip out pics of the MIGHTY Electrohome PA-100 MK-1!

nice freaking Accuphases Elroy!! :thmbsp:

I think most can appreciate the design quality of a Accuphase piece.....and the money they ask....for current models....they better be good....and they are. I am glad I have my vintage Acc's. Nice pics Elroy......

Yep, I have to admit those Accuphase units are Sweeet!!

Pete

I must say that the sweetness is much more than skin deep with Accuphase. What you see with your eyes directly correlates with how they perform. Looking at the pics, the Accuphase MO is obvious- VERY WELL thought out and designed layout and order that is completely and easily accessible (notice the easily removable individual boards). Also, like McIntosh Accuphase spends a LOT of time on model design. Their design process is extremely thorough- a unhurried methodical process of careful refinement to create the highest standard of musical reproduction purity. They use only the finest material and electronic components (most of which they make exclusively for themselves). They are fanatical about fit and finishes from the skin to the core to ensure extremely long lasting durability. When they finally present a model it will remain in the lineup usually at least 5 years during which they are undertaking the same painstaking process for the next evolution of models! Accuphase unlike SO MANY other high fidelity equip. manufacturers has managed to maintain their core "Mission Statement" ideaology since its inception over 30 years ago up until now. Below I have pasted this philosophy they live by which is copied directly from their website:
Music is an oasis that refreshes us in our journey of life.
Music can be soothing, exciting, exhilarating. It can move our hearts and enrich our lives, which is the goal we at Accuphase seek through audio technology.
This was the idea behind the slogan "Enrich Life through Technology" which originally brought together the group of very highly skilled audio experts who conceived and today produce the successful Accuphase line of audio equipment.
It is the guiding principle behind all Accuphase components whose high grade can be considered extravagant.
Just as there are exquisite musical instruments that are especially highly prized, we believe that the same applies to audio components. This belief forms the basis of our design concept. It is the reason why we strive to build extra value into each of our units so that they will display fully the merits of hand construction.
The name ACCUPHASE was adapted by taking the prefix ACCU from the word "accurate", and combining it with PHASE which is a most important factor in audio technology. We feel it is a very fitting brand name to describe our products that fully portray this and other important characteristics, which penetrate the innermost depth of audio technology.
Our endless pursuit of quality requires a very high degree of processing which persuades us to avoid the use of mass production systems. Consequently, production volume is limited and Accuphase products are available only at a restricted number of specialized stores.
Accuphase equipment is not subject to the whims of market fashion since they are made, above all, to achieve true high fidelity sound reproduction. This is the foremost reason why our products have enjoyed long-run production.

Those are mighty nice looking pieces of equipment there Elroy, but amps only sound fantastic when the transformers are square, not round...

Lots of good to great gear here. Mac is good. Not my cup of tea style wise, but hey they do it for lots of folks :)

When thinking Japanese, I was wondering if the OP was considering Pioneer (et al) vs Mac, or say Luxman or Nakamichi vs Mac? And that got me to thinking about Tanberg and Telefunken. Where do they fit into this discussion? I know they aren't Japanese, but was the original troll to try to find gear generally regarded as Macs equal or better?
