Marantz Service Manual error thread

I have a PM 700 I’m working on and I’ve noticed some of the small ceramic cap values are not what is in the manual. They’re calling out some 10 and 22uf caps but they are 278 pf
And 330nf. Not sure why.

Marantz 2265 (not the B) Tone Board PEO1 - C38 in parts list states 220uf 35v while the schematic states 4.7uf 16v bipolar. The 4.7uf value is correct.

Thanks. I’ll probably trust the schematic over the parts list if there is a discrepancy or just do a direct replacement of what’s already there considering it’s original.

working on 1060 S/N 512279

beside missing elements on 'fig9, fig 10' ( phono, and preamp boards), I found these differences on actual boards and SM
R901-902 47k by SM 100k onboard
R919-920 820k SM 1M on board
C415-416 are actually C412-413
R303-304 220k SM 220 onboard
R804 470 SM 100 onboard

Just finished my Model 33 and I can report there was an error on the schematic: R224 is actually 2K7 instead of 1K (which makes sense if you look at the preceding stage, which has the same transistor series pair with the proper values).

I have been working on a google sheets (like excel) spreadsheet that makes finding replacement parts for restorations via a service manual, actual unit, or the lists and errors here on AK, easer to compile.

I like it, it looks like more work than it is. For most caps, on a given board, simply enter the part numbers, capacitance and voltage. the rest autofills. Transistors go through a lookup table to give the likely modern replacement(s) - knowing that USE WITH CAUTION is needed. Trimmers and relays are also easily added.

I think it should be quite easy to modify what I have to deal specifically with service manual errors and/or deviations in production (the 2325 relay having two options comes to mind).

Ha, but I have no intention of entering all the hodge podge of GREAT info here into it myself. Is this a tool people would be willing to contribute to? Find useful? It need not be strictly Marantz and would, I think, make finding errors quicker and also, if used by enough people, make finding errors by users easy as well.

in that pic, the section to the right with the green cells is another tab that queries the data to the left, I simply enter the model number and hit enter and all the data from just that unit is queried to fill it in.

Being a google sheet it would be housed in the cloud and editable by anyone willing to contribute.

RE: the 2220B......

Just finished an overhaul, and found something interesting on the power amplifier board. At the top of the board there are two green blob diodes at positions H705 and H706. They are on the schematic as such, so no issues there. What isn't on the schematic but was physically found on my unit was an additional pair of green blob diodes, one going from the positive side of H705 to R709, and one going from the positive side of H706 to R710. On both ends, these undocumented diodes share PCB holes with the devices that they bridge. See pic for example:

I have one on the bench right now that has these two bonus diodes. Would love to know their value and what purpose they serve!

@ Bambi Hmmm, Mine doesn't have this.
Also, is the diode inserting to junction of R709 & R711?
It's mighty tight where the other end goes, hard to get a good look, I'll see if I can confirm this later for you

Marantz 2215B

phono board
C401/402 the small blue tantalum capacitors are correctly indicated as 3.3uF on the diagram/schematic, and INCORRECTLY listed in the parts list as 33uF.

Marantz 2252 service manual error.

On page 31 of the 35 page manual. Tone board PE01 Pre Tone amp board. CE21 & CE22 are listed incorrectly as being 33µf caps in the parts list, but are really 3.3µf.
The schematic has them correct.

Taken from the Power Amp board in a Model 27. Who knew they had transistors with 2 x bases and no emitter back then. Classic Marantz mistake.

Marantz 1060

Both service manual and schematic list H403, 404, 407, 408 as "2SC493" which is a TO-3 part. They are in fact "2SA493"

2240 s/n 10719J4

On P800 power supply, H802, driver for the 35v P/S it is listed in the SM as 2SC945Q or R

I found instead a 2SC1318R.

2SC945 we replace with KSC945'C' but a more kosher sub for the C1318 is the KSC1845(F)

I think you technically can go either way here however...

On Tone board PE01, CE21,22 are listed in the SM as 33Uf-50V. I found 3.3uf-50v

ETA: service manual from hifi-E in the adjustment section
(16 audio, step 4) after adjusting the idle, it wants you to check DCO again and give R762 a twist. problem is, there is no R762, replace that with R707 from step 2 and it should work pretty good.

Also on the Tone Board CE05/06 are listed as 47uf and I found 4.7uf,

MARANTZ 2238B
I didn't find it in the posts before but schematic has an error. In fact there are two Q712 but the one connected to R781 should be labelled Q753 (as written in the power board)

MARANTZ 2275

according to SM H707 is transistor 2S945, is that correct? I can't find any specs on internet about it. Isn't that an error and should be 2SC945?

Thanks Calvillo so you also believe that the right code to look at is 2SC945 and not 2S945? I don't think the latter even exist but it's in the Service Manual

2SC945 is in a lot of Marantz units, so, while I'm not looking at a 2275 or the SM, I think that's what you're looking at.
