McIntosh introduces the MS300

Ron:

The real question I have is sound quality related.

I have been doing this for a year and a half, and I have found hard drives used as transports FAR exceed even the BEST transports when paired with the same DAC.

I am curious if this is a Mc CDP as far as the internals (DAC's, etc). I have the same concerns as others about spending the extra cash for a pretty Escient. But if it had a better output section, I'd be game.

Thanks!

The McIntosh MS300 uses 24/96 ADC and DACs. The specs are slightly better than the E2 but most features are shared. The front panel user interface is all McIntosh on the MS300 which is important to many consumers. FLAC is the default codec on the MS300 for maximum sound quality.

Thanks Ron.

I concur. . . FLAC is absolutely the way to go in this application. I can't wait to hear one.

One more question. Is there a digital out?

Thanks!

The MS300 has co-ax and toslink digital outs as well as three sets of digital ins as well as analog inputs.

That MS300 does sound and look like another great McIntosh product, but I have to tell you...I have set up wireless digital streaming to my MX134 via Macintosh's (The other Mac guys..) Airport Extreme router with a digital connection going to the MX134. A dedicated hard drive containing AIFF music (or Apple's lossless...) and iTunes software for control and I believe the sound is comparable.... all for about 1/20th of the cost of the MS300. I can control it from my iBook or the main computer...set up playlists....make compliation CDs, etc.

All that said, when I win the lottery, I'm gonna buy an MS300 !!!

I going a few blocks from the dealer today so I will be going over early, and popping in to see if they have one setup. :)
They are closing the Bay Bridge for a couple of barges at noon on a sunny Saturday! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Got to go

No MS300 here yet. :worried: I did get to listen to one of my cd's on a MVP861, through a MX135, 2xMC501's, and a pair of the XLS360 speakers.
A very sweet consolation.
