Mvp 861

Yes, I would like to hear an update when you can. :)
My dealer has cut the NIB price of the 851 down to 2699. now the 861 is in stock. 2200. is the trade in also, so it would be great to hear about whether
the 861 is worth the price difference from an end user viewpoint for basically the SACD capability.
It sure was difficult to walk out of there without a MX119!
When they ended the C15 pre, my dealer also sold NIB units for 800. They often sell for more than that used these days. I had the spare change to buy one too at the time. :worried:
Enjoy!!!

My MVP 861 has arrived! I set it up last night . At first listen the audio section seems to be much improved over the 851. Other than considerably more video software flexibility I didn't notice much if any difference in video quality and clarity. My first impressions of the new remote are not good. Lettering and key buttons are too small. Too many useless controls for my taste. I will post additional revews as I spend more time with it. Audioden

This is interesting. I hate to hear the audio quality is better than the 851. Now I'm more jealous. I have been happy with the audio on the 851. I have yet to audition the 861. I'm sad I don't have SACD. However, the DVD-A has been nice.

I don't think I'll upgrade until there is some better standard of Video playback with DVD's. I have a fixed 720p TV and wish DVD would playback at this resolution without the use of an upscaler. When I see movies per satellite in HD, the image will best the DVD performance of the MAC (or maybe any DVD Player?).

Also I wish MAC would come out with a stand alone SACD player.

why? The cost would be nearly the same as the uniplayer.

This is a good point. I won't argue. However, I not ready to eat the depreciation costs of owning the 851 for only just yet.

I would like to have a seperate player for playing my cd's than my DVD's. In fact , possibly a changer.

Hey, I would love to hear more about the improvements of the 861 over the 851

A changer capability is keeping me from being green with envy so I will hang with my 851 as I need a second player anyway to do that. It is too bad they are unable to update the 851's though. I am happy with my 851 but will have to seriously go audition the 861. Maybe take my 851 with me to the dealer for an easy change out.

Unless you are a big fan of SACD the 851 gives up little to the MVP861. Audio is great on both and the video is also comparable. They both should be set up for the particular monitor and trying all the settings is the key.
