Are these (XLS 360's) speakers made to play on their own, or to be used with a sub (s)?
The specs do not suggest they play low (55hz).
I am looking at a used pair.

I personally think they need a sub to get closer to the sound of the older and quite impressive LS360 .... though I may be biased
;-)

I am surprised that the older model goes to 29hz.
Vs 55hz.

55hz seems a little tight, for a Full Range speaker in a 2 channel system.

If I add a couple subs into the XLS equation, dollar wise the LS speakers do seem a better used buy.

I have not heard the XLS yet. Its on my action item list of things to do.

Check the classified section of this forum. I posted my LS360's. In my 24.5 by 17 by 9 room they measure flat at 20 hz and up 3 db at 25 hertz. Great bass!! I am upgrading to the XR200. It is extremely difficult the beat the performance of the LS360 for the used price. The XLS360 weights less and is an 8 ohm speaker which is easier to drive. The penalty is bass response.
