MCS Left Channel No Sound.

The Polks look too small to put out a lot of sound. I've never seen or heard any Gradiente speakers, but they look promising. There are some fans of the Realistic Mach speakers - I had a roommate in college that had some - they were nice and loud.

If you can listen to them before buying, that would help. Also, in speakers (like in amps), the heavier they are - the better constructed they should be. Always check the foam surrounds on the woofers. Sometimes they fall apart over time, and will need to be re-foamed. Some have fabric or rubber surrounds that last many years.

Speakers are tough to suggest. There are so many brands and models, and everybody will prefer some more than others. Let your ears be your guide. Thos Realistic ones will put out a lot of good bass if working properly.

Depending on you listening room, you may want to consider a pair of smaller, bookshelf type of speakers, and add a subwoofer in the corner. In a couple of my systems I use smaller "satellites" with a subwoofer in the corner, and it sounds very nice. You could either use a powered subwoofer, or a passive one. Your receiver would be able to power a passive sub fine. As long as all speakers are 8 ohms, hook the satellites and sub to speaker "A" hook-ups, and it should be fine. I wouldn't run speakers on the "B" hook-ups at the same time, though - that may stress the amp too much.

I'll try and post some pics of my system, but in the meantime - here's a picture from google of a subwoofer and two satellites. The subwoofer handles all the bass.

i have a pair of Bpse 201 Series III hooked on speakers A, and other pair of aiwa (low quality, but gives me more bass) on port "B".
So do you think that its better to not use Port A and B at the same time?
 
As long as all the speakers are 8 ohm (or higher), you should be fine. Just watch for excessive heat from the amp at higher volumes. Every speaker you add puts more burden on the amp.

In my bedroom, I have a 100 watt per channel receiver with two 8 ohm bookshelf-sized speakers and a 6 ohm passive subwoofer all hooked to the "A" speaker jacks. That presents a load of less than 4 ohms at the amp - so it runs hot. I use a small cooling fan to help keep things cool. The receiver is rated to handle 4 ohm loads, so it is fine. Just keep an eye on the heat.

You have many, many choices for speakers - and everyone will have different advise. So go with what pleases your eyes and your ears.
 
Last night I was watching a video concert. I connected my IMac to the amp and it sounds just great. On half of the concert i put my hand right
On top of heatsinks and it was very hot. Well, i had a good level and i have hooked 4 speakers, two in A and two in B.

i want to show you my four speakers and explain why i have this four speakers. One pair are the Bose 203 Series III and the other pair are a reaaallllyyy cheap aiwa, i use the aiwa just because they give me some more bass.

I hooked the bose to A speakers Jacks and the two aiwa to B. The aiwa has two cables, one for tweeters one for subwoofer i guess. i put here some pics to show you how i connected them. of course the amp it is getting stress.

i want to get rid of those speakers, but in the mean time while i get something better this is what i got.

what about if i connect just the subwoofers to jacks B?
what about if i conneect just the subwoofers with the bose to jacks A? this will help anythin in terms of the heat?

I hope I'm not asking nonsense

Is it better to forget about the aiwa for now, and wait to have something better?

i am trying to get some three way speakers.

You have different options using these speakers - but I can't get too excited about any of them, to be honest. All four running at the same time will really be tough on the amp at anything other than low volumes.

The Aiwa look like they came with a large boombox type of system from the 90s - where one amp powers the low frequency "subwoofer", and another amp powers the high frequencies. If you like the bass from the Aiwas, I'd only connect the low frequency wires to the "B" speaker hook-ups. This may take some of the load off of the amp (but not much). By hooking all the wires from the Aiwas up, you are effectively giving the amp a 4 ohm load at the "B" speakers. Then, if you are running the Bose on the "A" jacks, you are dropping the ohm load below 4 ohm total. That is really hard on the amp. I'd avoid doing that at any volume, until you can find some three way speakers you like.

All that heat is telling you to either lower the volume (a lot), or only use one set of speakers at a time. I'm guessing none of these speakers are very efficient, so the amp really has to struggle to play them loud.

If you want super low bass that will be kind to your receiver, look for a powered subwoofer to place in a corner. You can hook it up through the tape two line out jacks.

Well me neither, but it is what i have for now. i got aiwas for free. they came with other stereo system that i had.
 
Since the Aiwas each have two sets of wires - one for the high frequencies, and one for the lows - you are connecting two 8 ohm speakers, and that lowers the ohm load to 4. These were originally designed to be hooked up to two separate amps, but you are hooking them up to one - essentially doubling the load. If you disconnect the high frequency speaker wires, you'll be back at 8 ohms. But now by running the Bose at the same time, the load the amp "sees" is back to 4 ohms - not good for high volumes.

Also, if you have the equalizer boosted at 60Hz along with the loudness switch engaged, you are putting more stress on the amp. If you can, set the eq levels all to flat ( 0dB), and then turn the middle frequencies down to give the effect of more bass. This will help the amp. Also, a powered subwoofer will REALLY help take the load off of the amp. Not that this receiver can't be pushed this hard, but it's nearly 40 years old - and it may not be operating at 100% spec. All that heat will take it's toll over time, and it could shorten the life of the receiver. I'd install a cooling fan just to be safe.

Also, I wouldn't place anything on top of the receiver while it's on. It needs good ventilation for proper convection to move the heat out of the top vents. It would also help to raise the receiver up a few inches - above what ever it's sitting on. It draws cooler air in through the bottom, to cool the heatsinks.

If you play your turntable at loud volume with a lot of low bass, you may notice some feedback or rumble from the speakers. If this happens, switch on the low filter in the lower position (I think it's 20Hz). That will help the amp (and the speakers).

Ok but if i get some different speakers things can go better. right? i mean i can set the Eq levels as i want and work everything like normal. it is right?

i ask also because i am going to put in a shelf almost like this (photo). so up it´s going to be the turn table and in the middle the amp. Down i going to put my records. the amp its goig to have 10 cm more of space above.

Sure - if you get better speakers - hopefully more efficient - you may notice the heat isn't a problem anymore. Most receivers have two (or even three) sets of speaker hook-ups, but most people only run one set at a time. The more speakers running at the same time, the more heat you'll get.

I don't understand what you mean by "What features do they need...." Are you asking what are the ideal speakers for this receiver? I would look for three or four way designs with as large a woofer as you want, look for an efficiency rating above 90dB, and be 8 ohm rated. I would use only one set of speakers at a time when listening. If you still need more very low bass, then I would search for a powered subwoofer to place in a corner. It's really amazing what a sub can do. And if it's powered, you won't be placing any demands on the receiver. The sub should have "line in" connections that can be hooked up to the tape two outputs (record out jacks).

If the heat is persistent, I'd still look into adding a little computer cooling fan over the top vents. It's a VERY inexpensive "insurance policy" to help your receiver last many more years.

Having 10cm above the receiver is the minimum I would shoot for. Twenty would be better....
 
well seems like i have to look for those new speakers and also talk to the Carpenter and see if he and add those 10 cm more to that shelf.

Just keep in mind that "heat is the enemy" of electronics, and you'll be fine. A little cooling fan may look funny, but I use them whenever I need to - better safe than sorry.

Look for speakers that are rated to handle a minimum of 75 watts each. That's just a rough guideline. If you watch the power meters, you'll see that under normal listening conditions, you may only be sending a few watts to the speakers, with very low bass passages peaking the meters at maybe 20-40 watts. If you actually send 75 watts out to an efficient speaker, your ears will hurt. That's a LOT of power, and your neighbors will probably hate you - LOL.

The higher the rating on the speakers, the better you'll be. I would shoot for speakers rated to handle a minimum of 100 watts per channel. Sending too many watts to a speaker that can't handle it will be hard on the speaker - but it may also damage the receiver. Your ears will let you know when things go wrong. When you hear distortion, turn the volume down.
 
I would think so. Remember that most of those watts will be for the woofer - to handle the lowest notes - so spend more to get the best possible sound. You have a great receiver and a great turntable - they deserve the best speakers you can afford. In most stereo set-ups, the largest amount of money goes towards the speakers.

And just for reference - if you are sending 75 watts out to the speakers, and you happen to turn the volume up just 3dB, you are now sending 150 watts to the speakers. Every 3dB increase in volume doubles the audio output (in watts) - so play it safe by getting speakers that can handle it. And to add more confusion to it all, a speaker that is rated at just 3dB higher in sensitivity will effectively double the perceived output level. So speakers rated at 98dB sensitivity will sound twice as loud as ones rated 95dB given the same volume setting on the receiver. (I think I got that right....)...LOL
