It's only right seeing that Jagger stole all of JB's moves.
Similar to Keith Richards producing the Chuck Berry documentary HAIL! HAIL! ROCK 'N' ROLL after Keith had stolen all of BERRY'S guitar licks.
Do you see a pattern here?

saw this and it was good. I've Mick and Paul McCartney over the years and I like Mick a bit more. He's mellowed whereas Paul is just too ready to talk about anything.

For my money, James Brown is one of the most important figures in music ever.

His moves, the polish he demanded of his band, the creation of FUNK, his love of humanity (once breaking up a fight between hippies and blacks at a show by stopping the set and speaking) and the amazing body of work he created.

Prince will be the first to tell you, JB is monolithic in his influence on music.

As a 12 year old kid, I saw him during his "Living In America" comeback period on David Letterman. Now, I didn't know **** from shinola, but I realized watching him do the splits, screaming and rapping, doing his thing, that I was watching greatness.

I don't recall him doing the splits, though. Not that i would expected it him to at that age.

While there is absolutely no questioning JB's artistic legacy, you could probably find quite a few women over the years who might question his "love of humanity". He was certainly a legendary artist but it is, at a minimum, debatable what kind of person he was. Honestly, I should probably just leave it alone, because the music he created is undeniable. But I guess I'm just not that big a fan of "domestic abuse", a fancy pants way of saying beating a woman.

He was certainly a legendary artist but it is, at a minimum, debatable what kind of person he was. Honestly, I should probably just leave it alone, because the music he created is undeniable. No argument there, but how many legendary musicians, artists, and historical figures were assholes in real life? Ike Turner has NEVER gotten the respect he deserves in the pantheon of Rock and Roll greats due to his antiquated mindset with females. As for James Brown, I've read that he even had men to "prep" the women he made love to.

Funny story....once JB was relating to Bobbie, his legendary sidekick, his utter and complete amazement relating to white folk and "doggy style."

Rumor has it he said "Bobby, a white man takes his woman from behind!"

While everyone else already understood this, JB was flabbergasted.

I think you are missing the point, we all agree that is deplorable behavior.

While we're at it, let's mention that FDR was a chain-smoking cripple who was married to an active lesbian, and he died with his mistress at his bedside, whereas Hitler was an animal-loving vegetarian who married his girlfriend. Picasso was a pervert, Hunter S. Thompson was a bully with a penchant for drugs, booze, and all sorts of thrills....

See where I'm going with this?? Nobody is arguing wife-beating is anything but bad. When I said he was a lover of humanity, the man was. End of story.

The liner notes of my JB box set (Star Time) is where I think I found that story on the Black Panthers.

Obviously, being crippled isn't a character flaw. I was describing him, nothing more.

Here's all I'm going to reiterate - Separate the work from the man.

Some of you guys reply like you have Gloria Steinem looking over your shoulder. My wife was beaten by her first husband, so I live every day with the long-lasting effects of this, so give me a break. I stated several times that it is deplorable, wrong, frowned upon, and generally bad.
