Miles per day on Road Trip

>800 mi from Columbus, OH to Rockport, MA once. Summer vac/parent visiting trip in '92.
300-350 is the comfortable/enjoyable mileage tho.

Pales in comparison to some here.

I belong to the Iron Butt Association, which is all about long distance motorcycle riding. I've done the Saddle Sore 1000, 1000 miles in 24 hours, the Bun Burner Gold, 1500 miles in 24 hours, and the 50cc, coast to coast in under 50 hours. For the 50cc I rode from San Diego to Jacksonville in 38 hours. Left San Diego on Saturday morning and was in Jacksonville Sunday night (less traffic going through large cities on weekends). Living in Iowa I had to first ride the bike out to San Diego and then back home again from Jacksonville, total about 5500 miles, but the to San Diego and from Jacksonville were at a more relaxed pace.

I've routinely made the 528 miles between my folks' house in Missouri to Dallas, TX in one shot.

The longest single trip I've done in one sitting is Mesa, AZ to Dallas TX - 1,066 miles

The oddest road trip I've taken was 100 miles in a growing snowstorm. Traffic kept slowing down as I got closer to home and I was constantly one hour away. 60 miles out we were going sixty. 30 miles out we were going 30. 12 miles out we were crawling at 12 mph. I think that trip took close to 8 hours and I felt like I was stuck in an algebra problem the entire time.

I'll agree with this. Beyond this point I can tell I'm just not as focused as I need to be and thats when accidents happen. Did a run from NJ to Columbus, OH in Feb and it was just over 8 hours. I decided to drive since I figured my time from door to door would be roughly the same flying or driving once I accounted for early arrival, parking, getting the rental car, etc. Driving at least I could roll the window down if I farted.

That gives a fella a pain in the rear just thinking about riding all those miles in 24hrs !

I recently did a one-day run from Kennesaw GA to Beloit Wisconsin (12 hours), stayed in a hotel, got up and drove to Minnetonka MN and back to Beloit, the next day (about 14 hours including a 4 hour install in Minnetonka), stayed in the same hotel again, got up super early the next morning, and then drove back from Beloit WI to Marietta GA the third day.

As I was driving back to Marietta GA on that third day- I got a phone call that a piece of equipment had been delivered to my shop- I then called the client that had ordered it, and arranged to deliver it to him in Alpharetta GA, and then I drove back to Kennesaw GA (about another 30-40 minute drive each way), all on that same day. Total of 13 hours or so that day.

So, a total of 35 hours driving in 3 days.

It's funny- it was perfectly legal for me to drive that, with my normal drivers license. OTOH, if I had a CDL, I would have been limited to 33 hours (11 hours a day) over that time period- it would have been a 4 day trip to get in all that mileage.

I have driven between NYC and Phoenix Az 4 times. When I have a destination in mind and am not sightseeing along the way...500 a day is the goal (that's driving a loaded uhaul with a car carrier pulled behind). I have driven from NYC to Miami as well but thats a two day trip at least at 1300 miles.

Yeah, when a box truck is involved, it's much harder to pull gigantic mileage in a day. Can't average much more than 60MPH, in a typical under-powered 26 foot truck. .

Most I've done recently, was Douglasville GA to Chicago in one day. About 13 hours in a box truck. That's quite enough, thank you.

I will likely be co-driving a 26 foot box truck, from Douglasville GA to Round Rock TX in a few months. Fortunately, I will have a co-driver, and we will do it as a two-day trip (stop over somewhere near Monroe LA on the way out, and near Jackson MS on the way back)...
