MLB 2026

I don't think it mattered what pitcher they put in. The Cardinals pitchers didn't look very good either as they blew a 6 run lead.

It was great to see the Yankee's Cy Young candidate get shelled though.
 
Chivilli - who was instrumental in tossing away the lead- was sent to triple A the next day.

The same group of hitters got shut out last night 2 - 0. Weathers threw six scoreless innings and the relievers held on.

One of those runs was a homer by the latest Yankees prospect, Lombard in his debut major league game.
 
Yeah that Lombard kid looked pretty-good both offensively and defensively at SS. They said his younger brother made his Minor league debut last night too and he also hit a homer in his first game. They showed the family in the stands last night and they looked very proud. They said they were torn on who would go to which of their kid's debut games but the younger son insisted they all go to Yankee Stadium for his brother's major league debut.

I never did see if they got the home run ball back from the crowd though? I imagine they did. That's one Lombard will want to keep forever.

It's amazing though how utterly explosive the Cards can be one day and then last night their bats went totally silent. I saw that Jordan Walker was a last-minute scratch from last night's game with some kind of knee injury. Hope it's nothing serious.

Yup, 6 in a row. They got swept by Arizona before the break which was a sign of things to come. The problem is the pay imbalance caused by the terrible Kyle Tucker contract. Guys like Muncy and Rojas got measly contracts and they have produced and hustled within the Dodger system. Tucker gets 5 times what Muncy gets and his numbers are significantly worse. Tanner Scott contract is another bad contract. He has not produced while starters like Vrobleski and Lauer have for less money. In the not too distant past, the Dodgers relied on their excellent farm system and promoted from within. They built from within which is why team chemistry has been so good for so long.

Freddie got hit by a pitch in Chicago. X-rays were negative — MRI tomorrow if it still hurts.

They are a much older team now, and the season is long. They’ve played a lot of postseason games in the last 5 years. They BARELY won the World Series last year.

Hope they get well before mid-September.
 
I don't think salaries are the problem with the Dodgers. They are flush with money. Any manager would sell his soul to have the resources Dave Roberts has.

The lowest paid guy on the Dodgers makes more than the highest paid guy on a lot of teams, including the Cardinals and the Cardinals won their last series against the Dodgers. The Cardinals also just finished up tonight winning the series against the Yankees 2-1 and the story is the same as far as salaries go there too.

Yankees 2026 Payroll = $338 million (CBT) Luxury Tax Payroll
Cardinals 2026 Payroll = $113 million (CBT) Luxury Tax Payroll

Don't worry, the Dodgers are going to the post-season. They can afford to have a couple big losing streaks and it won't phase their post-season aspirations.
 
I think the Mets have one of the highest payroll.

It doesn’t matter about the players or payroll — you still have to play and win the games (Re: said Mets).

The guy who caught the ball was interviewed during the post-game show and he happily returned the ball. I think the trade was he got to meet the family and a few other autographed balls.

I was watching the Dodgers pre-game show on Saturday. The hosts, Jerry Harriston, Nomar Garciaparra, and John Hartung, had a shot of tequila as good luck for the team. They actually won that game. Maybe they should buy a bottle. :idea:

Anyhow, the shot sure made Nomar super talkative. Jerry and John couldn’t get a word in edgewise.

The Cardinals choked and lost another 1 run game they should have won against the Phillies. It's their pitching that sucks. 7 walks in the game. You aren't going to win too many games when you walk 7 batters in a game. The Cardinals middle relivers are terrible. Just let the batters hit and give your awesome defense at least a chance at getting them out! Anything's better than walking the bases loaded!

They could have put me in and they would have had a better chance of winning than with their currect middle relief corps. They looked like a bunch of out of control minor leaguers who couldn't throw a strike to save their lives.

Final: Phillies 6 Cardinals 5
