Model 19 Receiver opinions

I was offered a trade for my tube amp for a Marantz Model 19 receiver. I know they are pretty high end and I am tempted.

Opinions?

A search might turn up some more discussion of this unit. Supposed to be a really nice receiver, when Marantz was still U.S. made.

It has the 20b tuner in it, one of the very best that Marantz ever made. I think I read somewhere that they are kind of a bear to work on, but that is rumor only. Depending on what amp you are trading, the condition of the Marantz 19, and of course what you are looking for, it could be a good move..

It was high end in it's time. Collectible and on the rare side.

The models are similar except the 19 has a little more power. I believe the 19 has the FET tuner front end rather than the passive front end of the 18 (plusses and minuses, I like the passive front end for overload immunity). I also like the look of the 18 but the 19 looks more like the 2270 and later products.

I nice all around unit. Confirm that the scope works and the scope tube isn't badly burnt (dead spot in the center). Also confirm that the mono/stereo switching and muting of the tuner function sensibly as the photoresistor assemblies can give problems.

what type of tube gear are you trading? This is a factor. The 19 is a fine receiver. But I doubt it is worth the price of very high end tube gear.

The 19 with wood case in very good condition tops out at $600. That should give you a baseline for your trade.

I decided to trade him for a KA-9100 instead. I really don't need another marantz receiver.
