Modelers Corner

Back in the early 60's I was full into the space program. I talked my mom into a subscription that sent models and booklets with stickers. Built Mercury and Gemini capsules that were nice for the time. I was in little kid heaven.
Same here. Built Mercury and Gemini model kit (both in same box as I recall). Also built the Apollo 11 LEM on the moon when it first came out.

Always wanted to build that big Saturn 5, but didn't have the money.

Got the Vette out of the stripper bath...man,that paint was thick! The previous owner did not use a primer coat so he layed down multiple thick coats of yellow!Sprayed the primer and will commence the color coats..IMG_20221121_122003902.jpg

Close to winding up the Jaguar. This is another nicely done kit. Modeling seems to be popular now so it looks like some companies are stepping up with some good product.

Got into model rockets with the kids. We had a ball building and launching them. My brother started building a couple then we had a Rocket Fest. Me and the kids, brother and some of our friends. Had a few awards. I took the highest flight and my oldest boy took most spectacular flight. I built one of thin rockets that took a D engine and added a couple more stages. It was so heavy we didn't know it it would get off the ground. First stage lifted the rocket very slowly and it was maybe 20 feet off the ground when the 2nd stage kicked in. Since it was already moving and had dropped some weight it really started moving. The 3rd stage took it out of sight. Landed about a 1/3rd of a mile away. The boy won the most spectacular with a SR71 we built together. It was a heavy rocket. Took off got about 20ft up when a breeze hit it and it went horizontal doing barrel rolls as it flew over a corn field. It was a really good time.

Glad to find this thread!
Been an avid scale modeler most of my life and since my retirement I've started increasing my stash slowly but surely. My wife thinks I'm nuts for doing it.View attachment 2715104 I built this 1/24 scale VW bug for my sister who owned this exact model and year (1973) and that is my artistic rendering of her enjoying a spleef. Sorry for the poor photographic quality.
Wow like groovy man !

I found this pretty interesting. The original Star Trek USS Enterprise model being worked on in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum conservation lab -

I watched this. Well worth watching for any Star Trek fan.
