Yea that is why I prefer the RC tank sites. The rivet counter factor is pretty low. It's more for friendly informational purposes than ripping people's work. I'll go on scale modelling sites to research some camo schemes and I do like looking at the finished products and dioramas but tbh considering the limitations of having to be able to get into the internals on 1/16 and larger RC AFVs which require hulls and turrets having to be removed all the time a lot of the detailed RC tank builds you see on sites like RCTW can hold their own against static ones on the modelling sites. Our club president always gets a table at the annual IPMS show by us and although the IPMS static modellers look down their noses at RC tanks most of the time the ones we have on display just to promote the hobby are better than a high percentage of the 1/16 scale static actual entries in the show. Plus you can't beat being able to run them outside and the natural weathering you pick up is actually hard to beat

I just popped in and great to see the thread is moving along again
Caught this on a documentary on German units in WW2. Interesting shot of a Waffen-SS tanker with backwards caps, riding a FlakPanzer. Heading to Normandy Front 1944.
I know it's an unusual film. Another shot. Sorry for the artifact lines. I only got these photos once. I have never seen this documentary again, on the History Channel.
The British narrator said it's a Möbelwagen of the 12.SS Panzer Hitlerjugend, heading to the Normandy Front.

With my recent ability to block all YT advertisement/commercials, I find myself sometimes getting sucked into all the videos of historical events without any annoying commercial interruptions for products/services that I will never desire or need, sometimes with the very informing/educational doc. streaming will engage me into wee hrs. of the early morning.
Yeah, I gave YT a try. I couldn't find the documentary. It had a good percentage of the film about the German response to D-Day, a British production. It stated specific Allied and German units — something you don't often see.
Finished the YB-49. It's a kit where you'll fight the pieces to get them to mate up. Some pay 100 for this kit. I'd save my money. It's good looking from 5-7 feet but there's not enough detail to be worthy of close inspection. Still it looks very good on the shelf and the shear size is impressive.
One of the cool things with the YB-49 and the other variants of the flying with the more primitive radars of the time couldn't track them. They had to add electronics to make them more visible.. I think they should have continued with flight testing and working out the bugs. It would have been a better plane the Convair B-36 Peacemaker. After the recorded setting flight it made on the return flight 4 of the engines caught fire and they pulled the plug

What a coinkydink. I have a Kato N scale CB&Q Silver Streak Zephyr that's being delivered today, a yard kit coming tomorrow along with lights for the cars. It's DCC ready so that will come soon, will go with Digitrax. I like the it's controls better than the NCE PowerCab I had on an HO setup. Won't be a big layout. Something that can be setup and put away quickly. Landscaping will be easy as this trains route was between Lincoln Nebraska and Kansas City so rolling prairie. There's a train show today that's an hour away that the dog and I will hit.
Great looking trains you've got. Gotta love the deco streamlining. The engine I got was a custom streamliner made for CB&Q.

Unfortunately, I have no permanent layout possibilities at home... So my scenery is limited to a small set of two little shacks :
Very rudimentary, but easy to carry on Model Trains shows and store at home!

You have to work with the space you have. That's why I'm doing N scale. The Japanese maker Kato makes some very detailed engines and cars. Excellent quality.
Went to the train show on Saturday. Good turn out. Only a couple of sellers with N scale trains but found a couple of sets from Con-Cor an American maker that paired up with Kato in the 80's who made sets for them. Bought 2 both passenger sets as that's what I'm going to build, a passenger layout. One is complete with engine and cars and tested it today. Runs great. The other is a big Union Pacific passenger car set that needs new couplers and an E3a+b engine sets. Got really good deals on both.
Have the tracks set on a folding table to work out how I want it before mounting it permanently and find if I need more track. I'll keep it 5' long at the most . It will be between 30-36" wide with 36" the most likely. Want to be able to reach across easily.
I'll post some pictures and video as I go along

I got my Panzergrenadier figures for my SdKfz 251 from Rob in the Netherlands who is just fantastic at them. Totally transforms the model. I have no skill painting figures, faces, eyes etc are just so hard to get right never mind those pea dot uniforms. Obviously they will look much better outside but that's 4 or 5 months away now. Amazing to realize without their panzergrenadiers even that beast of a Tiger would have been completely vulnerable to those crazy Red Army soldiers

For the moment, I have no space to devote to Model Trains at home - Oh, I may use one of our messy storage rooms, where I could built a large O gauge layout with wide curves around the walls, since the access is from stairs coming from below (see last pic) :
Maybe one day ? Not even sure... Since when weather is nice, I can go Garden Railways...
