Most over rated Band

Well..there are flukes every once in a while.....being at the right place at the right time means a lot in the show business...lots of rich and famous people who dont actually have the talent....I personally dont think that the Stone's music was ever great, the Beatles had some very creative moments, but some stuff is quite mundane...it was succesfull because of who they were.....same with the Stones...

The VU were the Strokes? I thought that was Reed's/ JJCale's /Nick Lowe's outfit?
There's actually a Dead radio show out of LA on KPFK that showcases their live performances which airs Sunday nights @ 9PM.
If it weren't for the playing of Umphrey's Magee and other music, I wouldn't listen at all.
Fortunately, the GD stuff is played through the first hour after a few selections of contemporary artists. So I can avoid it for the most part.
Can't listen to the Eagles at all anymore. Must be 13 or more years since playing the CD's I have. Maybe the music is just too sappy for me, IDK.
U2 were decent for the first few years, but I have no interest in listening these days.

I do like the violyn in his music but his vocals and songs are right up there with Springstain.

Of Bowies' later stuff I am partial to "Little Earthling".

Seems to me "Christopher Cross" won a bunch of awards at one time. I can't think of anything worse off-hand.

U2. Terribly overrated. Marching cadences, same chinkachinkachinkachinka guitar riffs and Bono's predictable caterwailing.

Ugh.
 
Toto won more Grammys for Toto IV (3) than The Beatles won for Sergeant Pepper (2).

Christopher Cross? 1980 -Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best New Artist, Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist. Hmm. That's the same year London Calling came out. I didn't see ol' Chris Cross getting his record named Best Album of the 80's by Rolling Stone magazine. I didn't see Chris get a triple-disc 25th anniversary treatment from his record label.

Needless to say, both Toto and Chris make my list.

While my personal tastes agree with alot of the bands that were mentioned, I also think that with one song (Teen Spirit) Nirvana wiped out :deadhorse a decade (the 80's) of horrible heavy metal ballad bands. Thank God!!!

Yeah, I think any of the breakthrough bands- the innovators- The Beatles, Nirvana, Sex Pistols- have to be given some room. Yeah, they get played to death. That doesn't minimize the quality of the music.

The Colorado Symphony just did Beethoven's 5th. What a shock- nobody went. Why? Who hasn't heard enough of Beethoven's 5th? Doesn't make Beethoven over rated.

Balthazar,I was just making a joke about how I think the Strokes sound just like the VU,IMHO.
I think Nirvana did for the culture of the 90's with "smells like teen spirit",that the Beatles did to the 60's-they were the face and personality of a whole movement,which not only included music,but fashion and cultural trends as well.I mean,Alice in Chains had released their album the year before,and it did pretty well,but it was just seen as one record,while Nevermind made the movement a nationwide thing.

Somebody mentioned Dave Mathews thank God! Its like I woke up one day and this nerd is popular. I have yet to see what mind blowing performance he did to gain such noteriety. He just plain sucks from what I see and hear.

Also Van Halen, I had to see their logo carved in half the desktops in school when they were new. I didnt mind their first few albums but when MTV came out and I got a look at what cheesy, pretty, posers that they were I lost it.

Needless to say because of being a teen when MTV was new I hate all "hair" bands from the 80's. The reason I blame MTV is the fact that had I not seen what they looked like I may have actually liked SOME of that junk.
 
Dave Matthews sounds like Winnie the Pooh with a cold.

Oh, add to the list "The Black Crows". Crummy bar cover band that lucked out.

every new casted "Band" that produces one new Smashhit after another (before anyone heard it and anybody ever heard the name of).

Springsteen, of course. never understood what's it all about this boring elevator music. I know lots of people loving him - i can't understand.

I'm looking at alot of personal dislikes. and just because some of these bands haven't put out anything good lately doesn't take anything away from they're past accomplishments. Mentioned bands that do not belong on this list, Beatles, Stones, Floyd, U2, Zep, Doors, Van Morrison (are you joking), Springsteen, Neil Young (once again, are you joking), Bowie, The Who. There are many others I just can't remember right now, and some of them I do not like. But I am not prepared to take they're accomplishments away from them just because they are not my cup of tea. Bands that definitely belong on the list. Toto, Foreigner Journey, Sex pistols ( I don't care how they influenced the music scene, they could barely play they're instruments), Creed, Pearl Jam, The Dead, Styx, The New York Dolls, Nirvana, Boston, Cheap trick, The Cars, Nazareth, Cold play, (I just don't see them going any where with his voice) REM, Soungarden, Nickel Back, (Don't ge me started on these guys, they are the Foreigner of the're time). Once again I like some of these bands, but I feel they were overrated. Feel free to slag me, I just feel that when you have a body of work that is deep, and broad, and shows growth. You deserve your spot in history.
