Most overrated band

Dude, you go learn Clapton's guitar part for "Crossroads", play it perfectly and then come tell me he's a mediocre guitarist. If you can play better, how come I haven't heard of you? If you can't, I don't value your opinion, but you're entitled to it, of course.:D

Yep, love how people flame the successful and talented musicians Behind their keyboards....

What's overrated is this thread! Let it end already....

To be fair, my keyboard is like one of those guitar keyboards..

Not a fan of The Doors. Don't know if they are overrated, though. I actually think Tom Petty is underrated, so it is what it is.

British Steel and Nostradamus are excellent albums, and Point Of Entry is at least solid! (but yeah...the rest, well...)

Hell Bent For Leather and Screaming For Vengeance aren't too shabby. Old drummer Dave Holland is not in a good place about now !!!

Stop trashing Yes!

And who are Vapid? Never heard them.

Okay, maybe my layout was wrong. I meant that to and Dawn were melodic and vapid, but you knew that already didn't you?

Tom Petty and the <whatevers>. I'd rather insert a bullet in my head manually....

Metallica and Ki$$.

And, as much as I like their earlier stuff, Green Day has sold out and become overrated.

I never even liked their earlier stuff on Lookout, and used to rip on my friends for listening to them (I was into angry punk at the time). But yeah, they're really bad now.

Low hanging fuit:

Seals and Croft
Daryl Hall and John Oates
The Black Eyed Peas

The first two were all over the airwaves in the mid to late '70s and for what reason? They really were over rated, because from where I sit, they influenced NOTHING. I kinda like Daryl's House on Palladia, but only for the music - he is pretty stuck on himself still.

Seals and Croft were probably legit, but they got played to death and I haven't heard anything out of them for years - that 5 year rule certainly applies here. And this whole autotune thing that is going on - maybe somebody else really got it started, but in my mind it is associated with the Peas and it is a blight on Rock.

I will absolutely defend REM, Lou and Mr Petty - these guys R.O.C.K.

Carry on.

Overrated? Metallica! They have some good songs but they are way overrated IMHO:

Judas Priest is WAY underrated! Just my opinion as a JP fanatic, but they should really be bigger than AC/DC, KISS, Metallica and others. On the other hand I kind of like it that they are not so mainstream. It would be boring if everyone liked them.

I love every album that they made except Ram it Down and Turbo.

Probably the most interesting aspect of this thread is each respondent's interpretation of how they think others rate their favorite artist in the first place.
