Most overrated band

Regarding Pink FLoyd. No, they are not overrated. A great group. I can understand how one might not like them. But their body of work is excellent as reflected by their popularity.

Overrated is garbage like Justin Bieber.

So you are ignoring his, in your words "popularity" and one could argue his "body of work".

This is entirely subjective

But in my opinion Radiohead is overrated. They are jst not for me, although I do like some of their stuff. Many people think very highly of Radiohead, and I just don't see it. Same for Steely Dan.

Ditto for Steely Dan.

I was wondering how Tony and Dawn could be considered overrated when they were never highly rated in the first place. I mean, were they?

Just because a band is overrated does not mean they are not a good band. Lots of artists come to mind who have loads of talent, but the critics treat them like the second coming of Buddy Holly.:smoke:

A couple of modern overrated bands I'd like to throw in there:
Dr. Dog - um, some OK tunes, more annoying ones.
Alabama Shakes - ugh
When I hear some of these mediocre bands being hyped up like the next Beatles or Chuck Berry or whatever, it just makes me want to dive back into my old record pile.

Although I do like the Bon Scott era, AC/DC after him is SOOOOOO boring. Every song sounds the same and a monkey could play drums on any one of them. To this day I wonder why the drummer wasted money on ride toms and a floor tom. All he uses is bass, snare and hi-hat... and same beat every song

For me there is really only 1 truly dreadfully sucky/over rated band.

Journey.. :puke:

The Dave Matthews Band... there are probably some good musicians in there, but Matthews is a bum. :thumbsdn:

Is Michael Jackson a band? If not, then whoever sings that gocart Mozart song they play all day anytime you pass by a classic rock station... Yet to meet one person that likes it, yet it is in constant rotation for who knows how many years...

Whenever I hear "Old Time Rock and Roll" on the radio (every day at my freaking job) it makes me wonder: why don't they just play some damn old time rock and roll instead of this idiot warbling on and on about it?

I would have to agree that Bob Seger has taken the path to mediocrity. I was fortunate to see him in concert when he was at the top of his game. All they played was music from Night Moves and the Silver Bullet Live albums, his only two worth having. Randy Hansen was the opening act. That was a night of fun kick ass music.

When I heard the albums he was releasing after seeing him do such a good live show all I could think was WTF is he thinking. Seems like he ran out of steam or got forced down the girly band track like Peter Frampton.

"go-cart Mozart"...that's funny!

(Manfred Mann's Earth Band is the popular version you are most likely referring to but Bruce Springsteen wrote it).

Yah Springsteen... Just when you thought it couldn't be any worse. For many years I have been using the "Springsteen Test" and it has never failed me. If I meet a person and ask them if they like Springsteen and they say yes then I know for certain that we can never get along. Funny, one time I caught a glimpse of Springsteen live and heard everyone booing. I thought "great, this guy has got to go!". Felt like an idiot when I realized they were chanting "Bruuuuuce".

Ok you asked for it, sure Dark Side was recorded really well, but still Pink Floyd to me is the most highly over rated band. You can take a turd and polish it up really nice and shiny, but it's still a turd!
My opinion.

You'll burn in hell for that! :nono:

Sooooo many to choose from! My vote is a tie between KISS and Grateful Dead.
