Most overrated band

Gotta love reading this...I listen to almost anything...LIKE anything is another story. Some that I never got or liked:

1. The Stones. Angie did them in for me
2. Beatles. I just never got into them
3. Nirvana. Again, just couldn't get into them
4. The Doors.
5. Anyone who makes up words in a song just so they rhyme! Pull up your pants and get singing lessons!:lmao:

I think Titanic is the worst movie ever made because it was really popular and the director is an asshole. Oh wait... wrong thread.:D

The Sex Pistols.
You just beat me to it. I was more of a Clash fan. Here's my list:

I like all of these bands but I think they receive too much attention:

- Buffalo Springfield (but not because of Neil)
- King Crimson
- Sex Pistols
- U2 (after the Joshua Tree)
- Decemberists

I predict this thread will live for a few years.

Okay - I'll get it out of the way! :smoke:

THE BEATLES

Overplayed, yes. Overrated, no way. I'm no super Beatles fan, but you cannot deny their true genius. Listen to all the levels and nuances in their music. Very few have ever even come close to the creativity and talent found in their tunes. Not sure it was all their doing, but its cool.

Now for my overrated:

Captain and Tennille
Sonny and Cher

The Stranglers were more my style, but The Clash definitely had their moments. King Crimson, ouch. This thread will go one of two ways. Shut down - or - living on life support after a couple of days. Finite list of contenders to thrash, the usual suspects. Then, in three months out of nowhere it will either:
a. be revived -or-
b. a new overrated band thread will pop up.

This one has potential, lots of early interest and plenty of contenders. Great fun, it is. Nice way to kick off the winter blahs.

King Crimson gets too much attention? maybe in their smallish niche maybe...

I was going to suggest Hootie and Blowfish...

A couple of modern overrated bands I'd like to throw in there:
Dr. Dog - um, some OK tunes, more annoying ones.
Alabama Shakes - ugh
When I hear some of these mediocre bands being hyped up like the next Beatles or Chuck Berry or whatever, it just makes me want to dive back into my old record pile.

Dogging the Alabama Shakes? They're barely out of the box. Dang.
