"Festival," on the Newport Folk Festival...as a kid, I saw it at its premier, on Martha's Vineyard. Sort of recounts the first electric performances...as Son House said," The blues don't call for no jumpin' "...flash to Paul Butterfield Band :rockon:

Fun watch. Wyman has collected different things since his childhood and he sits among his archived collection talking about everything from growing up in post WW2 England to that band he played bass with.
 
Though not delivered as a music documentary per se, the recently released PBS doc about Those Three Days Of Peace And Music in Bethel, NY, offers a "new take" on the administrative effort that went into producing the hallowed festival of 1969, which some say was Hippiedom's Crownning Moment ... And Last Gasp.

The film captures some of the last interviews and their final live performances together, before their deaths in 2011.
 
"The Greatest Night in Pop" -- 2024 documentary currently available on Netflix about the making of "We are the World". I found it very interesting. The whole thing was recorded in one night, started in the middle of the night (after the AMA awards, because many of the performers were in town), with everybody in the same room. What I find amazing about this song/recording is that they maximized every performer's voice -- each voice is distinct and fits the song so well. Whether you like the song or not (I do, a lot), it was a masterpiece effort to put it together. This documentary steps through all of the details of how they put it together, who caused issues, etc. Quite well done. There was another documentary a few years ago that covered the recording in less detail -- I think this one is better.

I saw the "Herb Alpert is ..." documentary last night, currently free on Amazon Prime. I liked Herb's music a lot, but never really thought much of him as a trumpet player because most of it is so simple. Turns out he he is a pretty amazing guy -- I never knew he was the "A" in A&M, a great talent on many levels, a philanthropist, and he is amazing on trumpet (when you hear him play live in the documentary and beyond the typical songs that were hits). This is probably one of the best and most surprising (to me) music documentaries I've seen in a long time :thumbsup:.

The way I heard it explained was the beginning and end of the Love movement ...
Woodstock was the start, Isle of Wight '70 with fans demanding free access and crashing the gates; and Gimme Shelter: Altamont with the Stones and Hells Angels' killing was the final blow ...

I recently watched Darryl Jones: In The Blood...he who spent 5 years with Miles Davis....recorded and toured with Sting, and replaced Bill Wyman in The Stones...
