The Paul Simon "In Restless Dreams" documentary is excellent. It's currently free on Amazon Prime, but only for 10 more days I think. I highly recommend it for any Paul Simon or Simon & Garfunkel fans. It goes into quite a bit about his songwriting. It talks in very frank terms about the breakup (both from Paul's and Art's perspective) -- through really the rest of the content is more interesting.
Paul was the host on the 2nd ever episode of Saturday Night Live, and they have a lot of clips from that that are really funny. I forgot that SNL was genuinely clever and funny and finessed back then.
Some of the newer recording stuff is a bit less interesting (and hard to watch because his hearing is affecting his performance), but they bounce around to different eras constantly, so all of it is interesting. I very highly respect Paul Simon's writing and performance, and this is a great view to all of that. It's in two parts -- can't wait to finish part 2 as soon as I can find time.

Just watched “The Beach Boys” on Disney plus:
Starts off as you would expect. Or at least what you would expect from the stereotyping they usually have to deal with.
Young kids, California beach blanket type stuff. You begin to think this isn’t going to be very good as a documentary and Disney has gone for another “fluff piece” format. I actually started to think “Must be something better on” at one point.
Then, it starts going into the competition in the business, the collaborations, the conflicts and then it gets personal, “gritty” personal.
Internal “family stuff” type of personal.
There’s tie-ins that are just not well known. The Charles Manson one blew my mind. I just never knew or would have even guessed…..
They talk about creativity and first in the industry stuff. Really, what band can prominently put a “Theremin” in their song/music and still chart a #1 hit with it in the Beatles era? Crazy…
They really get under the hood of the group and the family throughout the years.
I came away with a new appreciation for the group. Not just Brian Wilson’s challenges, but all of family and group members.
Definitely not the happy, sunshiney “California beach scene” band stereotype that they are typically pigeon holed into.
Worth a watch for sure. Just be ready to suck up a bit of bubble-gummy sugary stuff at the beginning…

They skipped over Dennis death as well, but overall is was good.
The new Stax documentary is also good despite leaving out a few details as well.

I would have liked a little more on Brian Wilson's challenges throughout his life up to his recently being diagnosed with dementia and being place in “conservatorship”.
But that can be an entire documentary all on its own.
IIRC, someone did a made for tv movie/ drama on it, just not the recent developments…
