Having owned amps from 25 wpc to 600 wpc and nearly everything in-between, I'd say having 600 wpc of McIntosh power would satisfy even the most demanding person with speakers of at least 87db sensitivity. Add the 2.8 dB of headroom McIntosh claims the MC611 is capable of and the amp is capable of nearly twice its output rating on dynamics. That's a bunch.

Interestingly enough, the 55% more filter capacitance will certainly be a factor in the amplifier's output current capability below 40Hz. I saw that first hand in amplifier engineering when I worked for Rockford Fosgate.

Add to that the subtle but welcome cosmetic changes and you have the next classic in the McIntosh lineup. I'm sure @joeinid would argue that his 1.25kws also qualify here, but the MC611s will outsell them 25 to 1 due to the price of admission. Joe, the club you're in will stay exclusive!

I have 1.2kw per channel on hand and honestly, it just isn't necessary. The only time I see (or will ever see) the PG lamps flash on my MC2600s are when I first turn the amps on.

The good news is that anyone that lusted after MC601s is gonna' have a smorgasboard of used pairs on the market in coming months.

Peak output current is 90 amps. I wonder if a resoureceful tech swapped output modules of a 601 with a 611s if you could super size your 601s. I noticed they are supplying protective covers like the big boy amps.

The headroom will take you to 1120 WPC on peaks.

I was playing some George Thorogood on the XR290s with bass peaks above that would have drained those MC611 modules and had no power guard flashes. Since the peaks were bass it was loud but acceptable club level live. I was demo for a friend. Not normal listening level but good fun and not maxed out either.

I’ll keep my big boy amps and argue 1000 WPC continuous can be just enough for some of us.
