New music doesn't all suck, does it?

Ty Segall did a cover of it. And Ty is great but I like the original slightly better. Something new, something old. But all that shred stuff, all that hair band stuff, fuhgeddaboudit. Speaking of old/new, kraut, etc., I heard this a few months ago and thought it was a new band. Nope - Coldplay borrowed the riff.

.

I kinda like the story behind that riff, especially the handwritten letter.

The band received permission from the electronic music German band Kraftwerk to use the main riff from its song "Computer Love", from its 1981 studio album Computer World, for "Talk", replacing Kraftwerk's synthesizers with guitars.[4][5][6] In a track-by-track interview given by the band on X&Y, bassist Guy Berryman reported that in response to the band's request, Kraftwerk founding member Ralf Hütter "said something like, 'Yes, you can use it, and thank you very much for asking my permission, unlike that bastard Jay-Z'."[7] Martin also recalled in a 2007 article in Q magazine the process of requesting permission to use the melody: He sent a letter through the lawyers of the respective parties and several weeks later received an envelope containing a handwritten reply that simply said ″yes″.

That is a FANTASTIC recording and performance. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

If you liked that, try this...although it was written earlier, it's a pretty exciting sonic ride too, and the Telarc bass drum is put to very good use in the finale "The Great Gate of Kiev" at the end of "Pictures." I do wish they had indexed the second work into more than just one 30:16 track...:(
I will check them out Thanks for the recommendation. I never thought I would be into classical but I guess getting older and slowing down has me appreciating things more than and the fact that I love acoustic instruments, horns , drums etc so I guess classical should be a natural transition.

That’s very interesting I did not know that, I wonder if it was done on purpose as you know Bill Evans was known for doing his music in an unorthodox way.

I don't know. Bill was brilliant and articulate, and my favorite jazz pianist of all time, and perhaps my favorite musician in general, but he was also, unfortunately, a heroin addict. I suppose it's possible he confused the tunes, but in my opinion more probable that the he was just describing the tunes as they were titled on the album, in which case he had them correct. He had kind of a quirky sense of humor...he may have even noticed the "suits" at Columbia got the album cover screwed up and just went with it....someone probably knows the real story, but I've never read a definitive amswer.

He was an exceptional pianist, him and Thelonious Munk had an odd style that set them apart from other pianist and imo in a good way. Would be cool if that story was brought to light , I’d like to hear it.

It's like the Turtles told the rappers: "We WANT you to sample our songs, we just want you to PAY for them".

I was ecstatic to find three Bill Evans CDs at a local thrift store in pristine condition. He is definitely a virtuoso.

This 90s classic sings the refrain of American boomers: “I like American music - because it reminds me of ME!”

Not exactly from the last 10 years, but great album nonetheless. The tour for this album was my first live show without my parents. Loved the stand-up drum kit!

one of the worst things about the audiophile world , is that its primarily a bunch of old boomers that aren't open to new music and keep playing the same old tunes over and over.

I mean this is new music, but is it really just old people making the same music they always did.

That's why I listen to things like Kpop, because they are actually creating new music.
this was real nice.
