New Shop System Underway!

thats the thing about Mc, great sound, but at cost, and a weight!
Plus, it`s highly unlikely that someone can quickly and easily grab and cart off any of their higher powered mono block amplifiers during a break in !
As an example the 2 MC-1201s residing in my bedroom are each placed on top off a Velodyne 15" floor firing servo powered subwoofer each right in front of the rooms 2 L/R room width spaced windows assuming they somehow deactivated my monitored alarm system.
If somebody tried smashing the window and reaching in to try to extract one of them while I was absent, I probably would find them outside, possibly dead/dying, or maybe even at least severally injured, with the 175 lb. amp crushing their chest/legs, if still present outside from the attempt !

^^^^^^^^The 1201's are 147lbs not 175. In my case at 62 I lugged mine in from my suv and put them on their stands alone. Last year at 68 I built new stands for them so once again I had to wrestle them around alone. I'm a long ways from being Hercules but I'm thinking if I was in a situation where they had to be moved quickly and the adrenaline was flowing they'd be coming home with me. A younger man with adrenaline pumping would be loading them in a truck and going back for more no doubt.

A pair of 1201's in their boxes is something I'd rather not face! LOL
Definitely a 2-man job, and some aids like a Dolly, Cart, something, anything!

Ok, I`m going from 70 yr. old flawed memory from reading the owner`s manual back in 2006, and has been no need to refresh since, motorstereo !
Thanks for the 1201`s actual lb. weight correction.
Might have become confused with the weight of my XRT-30`s twin 12" woofer bass very heavy cabinets, or not.

No more monster McIntosh mono blocks for me. I had enough trouble maneuvering all 67 pounds of my MC275 up on top of my equipment cabinet (over 4’). But it’s not so much the weight as it is the wildly off-balance distribution of that weight.

My 4 were brought into my house one at a time, via 2 younger buff installer lads using a 2 person webbed heavy appliance moving body harness type rig !
They were extremely grateful of no upstairs placement was required !

Same situation with the heavy ass Mc. XRT-30 speaker system, that was delivered and sited in my living room in Jan. 2004 !

I`m also grateful that my (4) 275LEs reside on (4) Target purchased stained cutting boards on the living room floor under the matching center channel speaker between the 2 XRT-30s LF cabinets.

I’ve always been mighty impressed by your all-in commitment to four—FOUR!—275LEs; and four? 1201s. I had enough trouble getting up the nerve to buy one 275MKVI. Granted, the MKVI cost more than the LE. But, damn, Bill! There’s also all that tube heat in summer. Guys like you and @damacman are as McSerious as a fricking McHeart-Attack.

Beautiful setup. Regarding the 901's -- I have some questions. Are you using the Bose 901 EQ's? I saw one standard (non-Bose/901) EQ in one of the equipment racks, but it's set to flat. Just surprised you are getting a lot of bass out of the 901's.

Also, I'm surprised there aren't cancellation issues (e.g. some frequencies getting cancelled out, others being overemphasized) when running four 901's (or any set of 4 speakers) in the same room. Do you wire the rear speakers in the opposite polarity of the front speakers?

Damn! And probably exactly at the time I started putting on the pounds.

It's all about timing. I was low carb when I was supposed to be high carb, and high carb when I was supposed to be low carb. :)

@peterp1, I won’t speak for @damacman, but I used to run four Bose 901s (he has a Bose EQ on top of a McIntosh preamp, IIRC). I powered mine with two PL 400IIs. You absolutely MUST use a Bose EQ. And my experience was that four 901s—and gobs of watts—only increased everything at every frequency, including the bass. The 901s love their power. They’re dining high on the hog with those MAC Beasts.

Yep, I went in planning for my house`s final systems upgrades after paying off my house in the fall of 1999 !
Started socking away all that money, preparing for the last big A/V, hardwired distribution of multi channel video and audio feeds and purchases starting in late 2003 and finishing in 2010, with only a $400.00 DAC as my last 5 yr. ago significant audio expense.

Tell me about 16 KT-88s & 28 small signal tubes + a original electronically restored by me MC-60 center channel amp`s waste heat`s effect on my HVAC`s nearby thermostat, and the attendant pricy electric bill here in more warmer ~ hot than not environment of NE.FL.

Being never been married, or any children that I`ll own up to made the future big outlay savings easier to manage.

No cancellation, it's a big space. Bose EQ - yes, absolutely. It's on top of the C37 preamp. The Audio Control C101 in the rack is just there for the bouncing lights ... not even in circuit.

The bottom end in Annie Lennox's Why is just off the charts ... the 901s are rapidly becoming one of my all-time favorite speakers! Soon, there will be (4) pair ...

My buddy owns a big machine shop and they build high performance engines. Walks in the shop, I fire up the system and he says - I want this. I'm like - this ain't no $750 setup. He's like, Money is not a concern. I want it all. Do you know how much this would motivate my staff?

Yes. I. Do.

I get it. Prior to retirement I managed a large Avionics shop for a major carrier. One of the guys on my crew had a buddy who needed his Sansui 9090db repaired. Knowing I dabbled in HiFi repair, he asked if I could repair it. I said I would take it on, having repaired several 9090db receivers in the past. So he brought it to me and I performed the troubleshooting and repairs from my office. Repairs completed and ready for testing with some music, I streamed a selection of classic rock saved to my Spotify account. After about 2 hours, I could see my guys in the shop bobbing and singing while they worked. They heard the music coming through the office walls!
So the next day I gave the repaired Sansui back to my guy to return it to his friend. That same day, a few on my crew asked about the music and why it was no longer playing. They really enjoyed listening to the sounds while they worked and asked when would I take in another HiFi repair, LOL!

My similar experience, with my house`s attached garage completely converted to a audio repair shop.
I had a modest separates based mid Fi setup installed out there first, with a HQ hard wired distributed audio feed from my living room`s A/V rack located Sony 10 disc cartridge player, and shortly thereafter when I switched my big dish sat. receiver in 1999 to a digital/analog that my program provider included the very high quality digital DMX multi genre music sat. channels with zero commercials and audio compression.
So with that uninterrupted all day playing classic rock music playing, very often my walk in customers hanging out would after a period of time would ask me what local FM station I was tuned into so they could find it and tune in, as they were very impressed with the DMX`s selection of consistent of non played to death classic rock tracks we were listening to !

They were disappointed when I told them of my big dish sat. system I had that was providing the music, and at that time there was not available the sat delivered music subscription based car/home to some yrs. later.

Sadly the big dish programing went black in 2010 due to waning big dish programing delivery interest, as the little dish sat. setups programing became more popular.

I then switched over to a Sony brand 400 DVD/SACD/CD player to provide my house with uninterrupted non compressed commercial free multi room distributed all day playing music until it`s laser block failed 5 yrs. later and I then decided to go totally to the CD WAV. ripped music route shortly after joining A/K in 2016 to be totally independent of outside sourced digital music using non electromechanical/magnetic/optical dependent music delivery system based on large capacity (1 Terabyte minimum) SSDs and thumb drives with all my CDs ripped to playing my all day multi-genre currently at 15k tracks and still selectively growing in the 2 separate independent players (for redundancy) shuffle/repeat all mode.

Sorry for the long winded, but somewhat related post !
Carry on, folks.
